TV news & moron guest \"experts\"
 

I've been reviewing how TV news reviews scientific topics lately. It's rather disturbing to see the quality of guest experts I see on Fox News. It's almost like they seek out the biggest moron activist they can find and face them off with another moron. What you get it two people that don't have a clue about what they are talking about yelling at each other. I haven't spent a whole lot of time reviewing the other channels but what I've seen hasn't been a whole lot better.

Do any of the news channels invite guests from NOAA, the CDC, or some other big name serious institution? Or do they all put "tobacco funded think tank vs. environmental blogger" or some other complete [censored]?

lol I think youve been watching when they had the best guests on.. and yes all the channels do the same [censored].

I believe CNBC is the least biased cable news channel. Even though they obviously have a pro-business viewpoint.

Best guests? Don't get me wrong there are good bloggers out there but these bloggers are like "ride a bike dude! it'll help the environment. You might like it". I'm being dead [censored] serious as that's the actual argument he made tonight. It's like watching bad 70's porn with bad 70's music.

By some wild circumstance I saw a bit tonight on CNN I think where they interviewed a Doctor from the CDC about some tuberculosis patient and testing. I only listened for a few minutes, as I have not been following this at all. On occasion there are some knowledgeable people on C-Span and/or book TV, the weather channel, or some other random network but in general your assessment is correct. TV is mainly for entertainment not for reasonable debate, intelligent discussions, or involved scientific questions or concepts.

You haven't noticed that this seems to be the format for almost all of Fox's shows?

I really haven't watched TV in a while. I just remember that during the Iraq invasion they seemed to do a pretty good job of interviewing important people. I'm just curious if there is ANY TV news that is more than a bucket of turds. Sounds like that answer is a big fat no.

So in your book, anything from the state has more credibility than anything else.

You can't ask something to go against it's interests; it won't unless you use force to ensure it does, which is wrong. Asking a T.V. station to do something that will hurt ratings is like asking a bull, politely, not to charge you. There are plently of alternatives to t.v. stations for information, and even video information on the internet.
