underhouses = the devil?

Ive dropped at least 3 buyins at 1-2 in the last 12 hours on underhouses, eg:

hole cards: 88JT
flop: QQ8

im asking; how many of you fold these, and when?

He Who Shall Not Be Named discusses at length how hard it is to be long term profitable off these, as usually if youre getting real action on the turn, youre pretty much drawing dead to a case card at best, and i feel like im starting to get what hes talking about..

try to keep pots small unless you're involved with a live one.

I either try to get it check raised all in on the flop or keep the pot really small.

yeah i think thats good advice, thanks to the both of you. if i start seeing things spiral out of control on the turn, ill dump pending a strong read and/or suspect they are overplaying an overpair (ive seen it done, aces are a hell of a drug).

grizy when you say "really small" does this mean sometime not even bet the flop?

yes, sometimes I won't even bet it especially if my position is bad.

Seriously??? So you are basically saying that you won't even play 88jq or other mid pairs? Because if you are only going to C/C or C/F these hands you basically will loose the max and win the minimum.

Re: underhouses = the devil?

like a lot of other situations in poker, it depends. with 4 peoiple behind, you bet, ANY Q will call you, let's say a 10 drops, now what? you lose another pot sized bet with worst of it or check and fold best/payoff with worst?

FUndamentally it comes down to this. You bet here, you have NO safe cards on the turn. some are safer than others, none is truly safe. By betting the flop you've set yourself up to lose a lot more on the turn and/or river by either folding best or paying off.

A hand like this is as much about pot control as trying to win the most.
