I got an interesting letter in the mail today...

I got an interesting letter today, and I still don't know exactly what to make of it.

It's from the "shareowner services" of the same bank that issues FTP checks. Here's the message:

As stock transfer and/or dividend disbursing agent for the company in which you hold stock, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires that we have certified Taxpayer Identification or Social Security Numbers for all shareholder accounts on file.

To Fulfill these requirements please:
- Provide your Taxpayer Identification or Social Security number on the enclosed W-9 card. (Please refer to the guidelines enclosed.)
- Sign and date the card at the bottom.
- Return the card in the courtesy envelope.

Thank you for your cooperation.

There is a W-9 card included, with my name and address, asking for my social security number. At the bottom of the card over the printed words "Shareowner Services Stock Account" is a hand written "WPT Enterprises".

Now I have no connection with this bank to my knowledge outside of cashing FTP checks. I own no stock in "WPT Enterprises". I have very few investments that this could possibly be relevant for, and they all definitely already know my information.

I really don't know what to make of this. Is there any connection between the PPA and WPT Enterprises? (For example, one of my donations was converted into WPT stock?). As far as I know FTP has no connection with the WPT.

I'm planning on calling the number provided for the bank "shareowner services" that sent me this and asking them what's up. My best guess is that FTP is paying out these cashout checks claiming they are stock dividends, but I really have no idea.

Any suggestions of what I should say to them? My estimation of the conversation is this:

Me: "Hi, I got this W-9 in the mail, but I own no stock in this company"

Them: "Uhh.. okay, but you've received X checks for a total of $X in the last 8 months, what is this from?"

Me: ???

Maybe I should write FTP about this also.

Wow.. I just found out my fiancee bought me a framed share of WPT stock as a present (including a very touching caption). This W-9 arriving spoiled the surprise and really freaked me out.

Mods please delete/lock this thread, I had no intentions of creating any sort of panic regarding poker site checks.
