Best way to take notes online

I know that I should be taking notes while playing online but I never know what kind of details I should be writing but know this is a very important part of online play.

Poker Stars has a note-taking system built right into the client. That's pretty much what I've been using.

What kind of things do you write about players though. Is it just raises in SB, reraises in BB etc or describing nearly each hand?

Well...not a ton, to be honest with you. Probably less than I ought to. Whenever I find a play I've taken notes on, it's often something like "called three bets cold with T7o???" So I've got some room for improvement myself.

FTP? or Pokerstars?

On FTP you can use colors.. best method since you don't have the time to write a bunch of notes or read them all. I mark players RED if they are a total fish that if you shove the pot they will call with second nuts or less, YELLOW if they do it occassionally, Green/Blue players are ones to watch out for ones which I will consider folding to because I have seen them play primarily nuts only.. whatever system works for you. I have been doing it related to whether I should call with second nuts in omaha or to fold... to push and try for a huge pot or to be sneaky with my bets and try and make just a value bet... thats my system anyways for what it is worth.. only been playing cash since early Sept but I am now at $577 profit. A few things:
what hands do they tend to limp with and in what positions? Will they raise A,J in EP or limp? Same goes for late position. Are they more agressive in late? Looser? Sometimes I will note the details of a hand if it was a wild one. Do they bluff? Do they bet small when they have a weak hand and big when they have a strong one, or vice versa? If you notice any betting patters take note of that. Are there any timing tells?

I always patter before I bet...

I only pitter-patter on a bluff, though

=)

On FTP i use the colors and just a one line of notes. i usually only note the day, game, and if they won or lost a lot against me. but i try and play mainly head's up so the colors work best and are much faster. red=crazy, blue=tight and so on

on PS, i just put the date, game and comments usually something like:

9/3/07- TDNL - moron..called down pat with a 9..idiot
or
4/23/07- Take all of his money...the guy is a prick

thinks like that...every now and then i'll throw in a HH

LOL Love how you note whether someone is a prick or not. I usually leave that out of my notes! Funny! Although I might call them an idiot on the chatbox,I try to refrain from doing things like that because if you get emotional about the game it can send you into tilt mode.
