lol I tried to bluff him
As a life nit I have no idea how to run elaborate bluffs. Please help.

Re: lol I tried to bluff him
Monotone flops create volatile and unpredictable reactions so I generally don't bluff at them.

Re: lol I tried to bluff him
Question is he looses enough to call with Ace High? In that case you have to check.
His line looks like a 22-99, suited connectors or maybe some broadway. I'd say this looks like a small pp that will likely call you down. I check you took your shot let it go. |
Re: lol I tried to bluff him
Your two options are to give up, or to bet enough that you won't be called by ace-high in case he was drawing. Ugly spot.
If you were going to bluff at this pot, you should have bet the flop. It is not credible that you would check that flop with any kind of hand -- from 9h9d to a small flush, most players are betting there. So what are you repping with the turn bet? A slowplayed nut flush? That's about the only thing that makes any sense, and it's a thin reed to hang a big bluff on. |
Re: lol I tried to bluff him
Actually, I do all the time so I advise from bitter experience. The thing is, if your opponent is thinking, what hand that can stand calling a push checks that flop and then bets turn and river? A big queen with no spades and not much else as I see it. And what hand can he have that checks the flop but calls the turn? He seems made in some way because there aren't many one spade hands that aren't leading/raising, especially if he's loose. So I think he's going to be difficult to shift off the hand on the river.

Re: lol I tried to bluff him
If you aren't good at bluffing, you need to remember that a bluff needs to tell a plausible story. Imagine a real hand and line you would take with that hand, and play it accordingly.

Re: lol I tried to bluff him
I generally don't bluff at monotone boards as much, especially on the flop, but people make less crazy moves with only one card to come and the turn is a good card to represent. Anyways I decided to follow through and represent KQ or AQ w/ no spade (or some random slowplay I guess) and bet 1350. He called with JJ though and I remembered rule #1 of donkaments. Never run elaborate bluffs. Ever.
