Tell me how to play this hand from the BB ($50 PLO)

It's my first hand at the table, but I noticed the button was pretty aggressive while waiting for the BB to come my way.

I'm new and this is a situation that baffles me. Tell me what I should've (or shouldn't have) done and I'll probably be more able to ask better next time. Thanks - and sorry about the converter. If anyone can tell me how to convert Prima hands, that would be great too. And to further exasperate the situation, I bought in short - $18. Button has about $50, I can't recall the other players, but UTG+1 had > $100.

> SB posted small blind ($0.25)
> Hero posted big blind ($0.50)
> Game # 1,122,054,233 starting.
> Dealing Hole Cards(K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] )
> UTG called for $0.50
> UTG+1 folded
> MP folded
>Button raised for $2.25
> SB folded
> Hero called for $1.75
> UTG called for $1.75
Pot is ~ $7 (less rake)
> Dealing the Flop: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 10 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
> Hero bet for $4.50
> UTG called for $4.50
>Button called for $4.50
Pot is ~ $20.50 (less rake)
> Dealing the turn(J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] )
> Hero checked
> UTG checked
>Button bet for $20.50
> Hero folded
> UTG folded
>Button mucked
>Button wins $40

I don't lead into that flop. What was your plan with that flop bet? To take it down on a drawheavy board? Flop call is acceptable, flop lead is poop.

I think my plan was to finally ask some folks who know how to play this hand after I lost several dollars.

Ok though, you don't lead, you might call on flop - how much? Then what do ya do on turn when the board pairs?

If you really think he's being overaggro this isn't really the hand to take it to him with. You have to basically float the flop, a turn, and more than likely a river card. The best card you can hope for is a K and that may make someones straight and/or flush. Only call this flop if you think he'll slow down on the turn.

Your other option is to reraise preflop and pot the flop (not advised on this flop).

Re: Tell me how to play this hand from the BB ($50 PLO)

Two nearby cards from 8 to Q, and especially with a 2 flush, are generally horrible flops for AA or KK hands when your sidecards don't also give you a draw in multiway pots, and even HU OOP. So generally the right play here was to check with an intention of folding to a bet, but if it got checked around and the board paired low or another harmless card fell, then perhaps to take one shot at it on the turn. Even though a bettor/raiser behind you will frequently have a worse hand on the flop like with just a pair and a draw, you will dump long term by continuing to play OOP in these kinds of situations.

And the fact that you're relatively short stacked shouldn't be an excuse to think otherwise. HOWEVER, being so shortstacked does give you one advantage, which is that you can checkraise allin against a non-rock and then have no more decisions to make. That is an acceptable alternative here, again only against more aggressive players who will bet any vaguely reasonable hand when checked to and not just 2 pair + or real big draws. But try to make sure it will result in a HU pot.

So generally just c/f, especially the deeper the money, and occasionally checkraise allin when shorter against more aggressive opponents when you think you can get it HU.

I'm willing to try a few thousand hands to find out. But thanks for the encouragement, star-boy.
