live hand at MGM

Live game at MGM in Vegas. This is a newly opened table, 10 handed, 5/5 NL. Goodness knows why they opened this game when there was a deep interest list for 5/10. Max buy is $1000, which most people did. I bought in for $400, expecting it to play like 2/5.

Game is playing a little on the big side, with pre-flop raise of $20 to $25 standard. I thought the game would be similar to 2/5 but it's more like 5/10. After an hour it's more than obvious that 7 or 8 of the others are much better players than I, but I hope to learn something from it. Villain is in seat 5 and playing very aggro to any sign of weakness. When it's checked to him on any street, he's raised about 8 out of 10 times, taking down lots of small to medium pots. I have left the table several times to either buy or get rid of beers, so I've lost track of his stack. I'm in seat 7 so it's hard to casually look and count his stack. I have about $470 at the start of the hand. He's got position on me, so I must be in one of the blinds.

I didn't use the hand converter because I don't remember all the cards exactly. The hand starts out with 5 or 6 limpers to me, and I have AK of hearts. I raise to $20 and 5 call, for $120 in the pot.

Flop is A clubs, another medium club, and raggy heart. I want to discourage club draws so I bet out $200. All fold to Villain, who calls without thinking for long. I figure him for a set, ot two pair at the least.

Turn is another raggy heart, putting two hearts on the board. The pot is $520 and I have only $250 left so I push. If I don't, he'll put me all-in anyway.

River is a blank, no club, no heart. I show my lonely pair of aces, and he turbo-mucks and storms off. It turns out I had him covered.

I know I'm not supposed to give the result, but the action on this hand was over on the flop. I'm looking for critique on my play, but also on what he had. I clearly mis-read him.

raise more pf, with that many limpers 4x is just way too small. i would bet less on the flop, 200 seems like a huge overbet, and saying you did it to 'discourage club draws' is just a copout was of saying 'i'm afraid to lose or fold top pair'. fwiw i would pretty much never be looking to fold this hand, and ur read that his flop call means he has a set or two pair at the least is wayyyyyyyyy off if u've ever played live before u'd know people peel with all kinds of wacky [censored] and AK on an Axx board crushes almost anyones range, especially the player described. once u overbet flop and he calls i couldn't imagine not pushing turn.

Why would you want to so heavily price out a potential club draw, esp. w/ your stack size?

If he's 4-1 against don't lay him 1.5-1

and ftr he probably had a weak ace and put you on KK-QQ with that flop overbet.

your wacky flop bet probably got you action from some junk that figured you for a bluff, or he had an ace and it didn't matter anyway.

i play almost 5-5 all the time and yes its an in-between 5-10 game with lots of action mostly. Preflop 30$ would probably be a little more of the standard with AKs with limpers like that. 200$ is a bit steep but it def. confused mr. aggro as a side effect. I like a bet of 130$ maybe 140$...At 5-5 you will usually get someone to tag along with horrid -EV attached to their line....

I think your stuck after he calls anyway for whatever you have left...its not terrible but a little more pre and a little less post would probably be best
