Is this game beatable?
I recently went to Star City Casino, pretty much the only place I can play cash games in Sydney Australia.
I played the $80 buy-in NL Hold'em game. The blinds are $1/$2, there are 10 players, a 10% rake (max $8) as well as a $5 time charge every hour. The game is very loose with some very aggressive players. I would say I am a better player than about 2/3 of the field. My bankroll is probably at most $1000 and I am wondering is this game beatable with such a high rake? What sort of win rate could a good player get with this structure? Is the variance be higher in a looser game? |

Re: Is this game beatable?
No, this is not beatable, especially by a player at the 33 percentile. The top 5 percent of players probably can't make this game profitable. The rake is way too high and then you have to pay a time charge also. Stay away. Any positive results you see are nothing but variance.

Re: Is this game beatable?
A rake + a time charge is absurd, especially in such a small buy-in game.
Pass. |

10% rake (max $8) [/ QUOTE ] this is brutal |
Re: Is this game beatable?
That rake is obscene and it pisses me off just hearing about it.

Re: Is this game beatable?
No.
Star City's rake is a joke. But they are a monopoly and they get away with it because they can get more than enough willing players. Players that have probably never contemplated rake. Vote with your feet and play online |
Re: Is this game beatable?
I bet if you learned proper tournament short stack strategy you could do okay in this game.
Everyone saying this isn't beatable probably doesn't realize you could probably get the whole table to go all in blind just because you asked them to. |
