Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

A while back, JaredL started a great thread here that listed how you can calculate the VPP's you receive on average on a per-hand basis. I'd like to compile another list so we can see the impact on VPP's since the UIGEA legislation passed. If you post your VPP's/hand for the limit(s) you play, I'll compile the list.

Here is how to do it:

Using Pokertracker,
1) Open the ring game window and select the "Preferences" tab.
2) Filter so you only have a single given limit (and full or 6 max)
3) In the box marked "Since a Date" enter 01/01/07 (this is important!)
4) Now that your data is filtered, select the "Game Notes" tab
5) In the upper right corner it says "Only show hands with at least [ ] rake." Enter 2.00 if you play 6 max and 3 if you play full, then click filter and get all. Remember the number of games displayed.
6) If you play limit 1/2 or lower or NL 1/2 blinds or lower, enter .40 into the filter and redo it, otherwise enter 1.00. Again click filter and get all.
7) Add the number of games displayed to the number you got before and divide by the total number of games.

When posting results, please post your game/limit/VPP's per hand/sample size (number of games). Don't forget to indicate whether you're referring to limit or nolimit and 6max or full ring.

The link to the old list is here.

i'm confused as to how the UIGEA would have any effect on the rate of VPP's/hand earned.

Less fish, tighter games, less VPP/hand?

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

NL 400 full ring used to be .65 vpp per hand for me, now it's .61 vpp....slight difference.

(over 50K hands)

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

I did some recent calcs for 50-200nl by just opening up a bunhc of tables and look at pot sizes at got a small sample of ~250 hands for each level.

50nl: .23 vpp/hand
100nl: .36 vpp/hand
200nl: .56 vpp/hand

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

$5/10 NL FR (190K hands) : 0.9226 VPP/hand

$3/6 NL FR (210K hands) : 0.7336 VPP/hand

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

NL 100 6-max 121K hands .33 VPP/Hand
NL 100 Full Ring 92K hands .36 VPP/Hand

I believe these are both down signifacantly compared to before the ban. They both used to be around .42 VPP/Hand

However I would say about 80% of my play is done before 5 pm Eastern. I normally play during non peak hours 8am -2pm Eastern which could explain the difference. I lost all my PT data from 2006

Yes it was but...

I think it's good to have another thread beacause the numbers have changed even since then.

I was getting .41-.43 at 100NL (mostly day games) and now am getting .36. This is at full ring.

Yes, the original thread started just after the legislation was passed so practically all of the data used was pre-legislation.

Great job so far, keep em coming...

Only 25k hands of NL 100 6-max

0.43 VPP/ hand

I guess I get involved in too many pots.

It'd actually be pretty interesting to look at the differences over large samples. Perhaps it's an easy way of quantifying how tough the games are at different times?

i will also say that the VPPs per hand have decreased dramatically in the last two months

my numbers match the ones posted earlier for 100NL FR and 6max

do the tighter games result in more hands/hr making the VPP/hr more similar?

at one time last PS required a $20 pot for NL to get a vpp

from a post 10-26-06

We are aware of the issues you mention in regards to the PL/NL games. A change has been made to the way VPPs are awarded. This change is so new the website has not been updated.VPP per hand VPPs for low-limit and 6-handed tables
.
All fixed limit tables with limits up to $1-2 will give the first VPP when the rake is $.40.
.
All NL/PL tables up to $1-2 blinds will give the first VPP when the rake is $.40.
.
All 6-max tables will give a second VPP at $2 instead of $3. Note this is not true for games being played 6-handed at 9-player tables – just 6-max tables.

thats about the same time as the legislation so I would say most lower and mid stakes players shoud se a big increase in
vpp per hand

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

old PS fpp award system 1 fpp = 1 vpp
http://www.bonuswhores.com/phpBB2/vi...;highlight=fpp
Posted: Sat May 20, 2006 10:55 pm Post subject:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Earn FPPs for cash game play
One (1) Frequent Player Point (FPP) is awarded for playing a hand in which the rake reaches:

$0.50 for fixed limit poker games with stakes $0.50/$1.00 and lower
$0.75 for fixed limit poker games with stakes $1/$2
$1.00 for
pot limit poker games
no limit poker games
fixed limit poker games with stakes $2/$4 and higher
2. Earn FPPs for tournament play
Five (5) FPPs are awarded for each $1 in tournament fees paid.

For example, if you play in a $20+$2 poker tournament, you will be awarded 10 FPPs (5 FPPs x 2). Please note that partial Base FPPs (FPPs that you earn from actual game or tournament play) are rounded up to the next whole number. However, extra FPPs that you get because of VIP levels do not get rounded up - they are stored as fractional numbers and accumulate accordingly. FreePlay tournaments do not award FPPs because you pay no entry fee for those tournaments

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

$10/20 NL FR (15K hands) : 0.8976 VPP/hand

* Note: $10/20 NL FR VPP/hand is less than $5/10 NL FR. This is correct and was like this pre-legislation as well...

MicroBob 05-18-2007 12:38 AM

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

right. that was the old system.

Now it's a $0.40 rake at 1/2 and lower for a point.

Also - I still don't understand all this talk about pre-UIGEA.

The UIGEA was in October which is also when Party pulled out I believe.
Jared's thread was started in January and continued well after that.
So many of the numbers that were mentioned were indeed post-UIGEA.
there were even some posts from people who said all their data was post-UIGEA.

If you want to try to figure out whether the numbers have changed that much as the post-UIGEA era has continued on and that's interesting to you then go ahead.
But everyone claiming that all those numbers were pre-UIGEA is something I'm not quite getting.

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

The point of my 2 posts was thet Poker Stars lowered the VIP/VPP requirements st about the same time as the UIGEA. so for lower level playes they should still see a dramatic increase in VPP/hand compared to pre UIGEA in spite of the tighter tables.

ramsclub 05-18-2007 01:02 AM

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

just for comparison last summer June - August 2006
NL 1/2FR I was getting 0.35vpp/hand that was under the old system for awarding vpp
adjust those same hands to what they would have been under the current system and I would have gotten 0.60vpp/hand

you can compare those #s to someones current results

*edit* small sample size 10000 hands

Rams, it's how you calculate the VPP's in PT that determines your VPP's/hand for the purpose of this thread. Yes, Stars did lower the VPP requirements, but if you calculate the VPP's the same way in Poker Tracker you won't notice a difference. Your hands are raked at the same rate.

LO8

.50/1 - .291 VPP/h over almost 8800 hands
1/2 - .4898 VPP/h over 8855 hands

I would do LHE, but I need to gather HHs off my laptop and just got PTH. Only have about 2k 1/2 hands to go off of.

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

Am I dumb or does the method use in the op not account for the fact that you get 2 vpp's when the rake is capped? Shouldn't you double the number of hands where rake is capped, then add that number to all other raked hands that qualify for 1 vpp, then divide by the total number of hands?

If my math is right then I am getting-

NL100 .45 vpp per hand (45K hands)
Nl200 .65 vpp per hand (56K hands)

anyone have any stats for 1/2 limit full? Is is safe to assume that the numbers would be close to double that of .5/1?

Re: Poker Stars: VPP per hand - post-legislation edition

VPPs per hand much higher for Pot-Limit Omaha than NL at same stakes

PLO blinds Table VPP/hand Hands

$0.50-$1 Full ring 0.63 11,502
$0.50-$1 6-max 0.65 2,647

$1-$2 Full ring 0.97 11,492
$1-$2 6-max 0.96 10,326

$2-$4 Full ring 1.00 8,924
$2-$4 6-max 0.96 3,547

$3-$6 Full ring 1.29 2,860
$3-$6 6-max 1.21 846

$5-$10 Full ring 1.55 1,025
$5-$10 6-max 1.45 133
