Minimum Internet Speed Required for Poker?

Search came up empty.
Wonder if anyone could tell me what the minimum connection speed you need is to play online poker - say PS and FTP at the same time with PaHUD and PT Running and browsing 2+2 at the same time? (I currently have 5 Mbps)
With the new FCC regulatin opening up the market to competition most everywhere in the US I have a few alternatives now and was wondering what the slowest speed is that will work? The options offered by AT&T are 768 Kbps / 1.5 Mbps /3.0 Mbps / 6.0 Nbps.

THanks

768kbps is more than enough for poker. You probably won't be very happy with your file download speeds, though.

Thank you.
Would having Instant Messaging as well as PA + PT running make a difference? (not really sure how much if any PT and Pahud are a drag on the Internet speed, but have heard IM takes a decent chunk....)

Poker and instant messaging make minimal traffic.. you could easily do both on an old modem with 4kbps.. so yes 768kbps is loads of room.

I seriously doubt it would be wise to try and play poker on an old-modem. Minimum DSL imo.

4-tabling on a 56k modem should be no trouble.

beyond that you'll start to hit the barrier.

I highly recommend Dual Channel 128K ISDN.

Hello Shadow, wish you were the real one.

I am happy to run on about 18mb/s on WiFi. I max out at 56 mb/s and the lowest I can go is 6mb/s. At 6, I can tell I am not connected well. At 3, which happens infrequently, I will likely disconnect. I don't understand why you want to skimp on this when it costs $50 a month for broadband wireless speed at AT&T. And I think you are misinterpreting the plans. They give you a limit of how much you can use per month.

daveT:

You are aware that your WiFi speed is not the same as your internet speed, right? The 6-54 Mbps is strictly the speed at which you connect to your access point/router.

You could have a 768 Kbps internet connection with a 54 Mbps wireless connection to your router.

Windows will report an estimated rate, and when you are at 3 Mbps it means you have a very poor wireless connection and is likely to drop or disconnect.
