Do you remember this 2003 MLB trade? (possibly worst in recent memory)

a friend of mine just reminded me that in '03 Sabean acquired AJ Pierzynski from the Twins and sent:

Joe Nathan,
Francisco Liriano, and
Boof Bonser

.....whoa.....worse than the Mets' Kazmir debacle....the best part - looking back - was Sabean's comment after the deal:

"It's not often you can send a right-handed reliever
and two unproven prospects for a front-line, All-Star
catcher."

if AJ was still playing for the Giants it wouldn't be nearly as bad as it ended up being

I knew even before I opened the post what trade it would be.

Yeah, it was a pretty bad trade. I'm glad I am not a SF Giants fan.

(I am a NY Giants fan, but what does that matter? :-P)

I don't recall how proven Nathan was at the time, but you need to realize that the other 2 were merely prospects. Prospects aren't worth much in the grand scheme of things. They are unproven. Even the top prospects sometimes come up and flame out with nothing to show for it.

Low budget, small market teams (Twins) value prospects much moreso than big market teams (Giants).

But yeah, with that said, it's a pretty crappy trade for Giants fans.

Actually, top prospects are worth a whole heck a lot - to their own teams and to teams that want to trade for them.

I dont believe either was anywhere near a top prospect when the deal was made.

I was referring to phb's post, not this trade. I don't remember how highly Liriano and Bonser were thought of at the time of the trade.

You mean the one were I said "prospects" aren't worth much? And that sometimes "top prospects" flame out?

Quality interpretation of my post.

You said prospects aren't worth much. Since "prospects" includes all qualities, the only possible way to interpret your post was that no prospect is "worth that much in the grand scheme of things."

I know you suck as a baseball poster, but at least try to make your poor, inaccurate points coherently.
