can you beat the rake at 2/4?

i currently play small stakes no limit but am interested in trying out multitabling small stakes limit like 2/4 or at the highest 5/10. At as low of stakes as 2/4, is it possible to beat the rake? It definitely isn't at most casinos, but online is it different? Can someone make a living playing say 8 tables of 2/4 limit?

Umm......... I've beaten 2/4, including the rake, live, for over one year, playing Commerce and the MGM Grand primarily. I will agree that the vast majority of players lose at that level. In LV, most are drunk, lol.

As to online, I leave it to others to respond. I have no experience.

I do not have the experience to draw from numbers here but I'd like to give my opinion. First of all, you should find the site with the best rake policy for low limit...I don't know which one that is. I used to think Full Tilt was pretty rough but in small pots they don't seem to take so much out, so maybe it's not that bad. That being said, I think you have a better chance of 'making a living' playing 3/6 than 2/4, only because the pots at 2/4 don't get that big. With the rake included (and no rake back), let's say you are winning at a rate of 1BB/100 (this might even be high if you are concentrating at 8 tables and the effect of the rate). If you play 500 hands in an hour, you will be making $20/hr...possibly liveable but not great considering downswings and all the time you will be playing suboptimally.

anyone know from personal experience if you can make a living at the 2/4-3/6 level or is the rake too big?

Beating the rake and making a living are two different questions.

Can you beat the rake at 2/4? Most definitely.

Can you make a living at 2/4? Not much of one as Jiggymike already pointed out.

Try this link, I haven't really had time to figure out how accurate this information is but maybe someone can comment.

It depends on what you consider a living but yeah this has been done by people who used to frequent this forum. My guess is it was a ton of hard work though and that you need to be really good at poker and of course it was back in the Party Poker hey day.

If you multi-table on the internet, this can definately be done in today's game.

I doubt it could be done in B & M games. Well, unless you worked an 80 hour week...

Absolutely Positively False!

I have made a very good living for the past 3 years 12 tabling 2-4 and 3-6 full and then switching to 8 tables of 2-4 and 3-6 6 max.

My winrate over a million hands was over 2 BB/100 Plus rakeback + whatever bonuses and VIP promos were being handed out at the time. I was averaging over 700 Hands per hour at both 6 max and full ring.

I don't 8 table anymore as I have moved up to higher limits and I only play 4 at a time now.

If you can play break even poker at Wpex and 4 table the 5-10 games your talking about $70/hour just from rakeback alone. 10-20 Is about $85/hour and If i remember correcty I think rakeback at 3-6 was about $40-45/hour there and 2-4 was about $30-35/hour

If you play 6 max it's a lot more.
