Biggest college admissions luckbox?

All these college admissions questions brought back memories. I dropped out of high school and joined the Navy at 17 (over 20 years ago). Just before my hitch was up, I was applying to colleges and my best friend obviously had his feelings hurt that I wasn't applying to his alma mater. So I applied (knowing I had no chance) just to make him happy. After getting rejection letters from some schools that admit 70-80% of applicants, I was shocked when the school I had no shot at sent me a big envelope with the words "The Next Four Years of Your Life" printed on the outside.

I was not a legacy, nor an athlete, nor famous. I was only 21 when I applied (so age wasn't much of a factor). Yet I still got into Northwestern University with a GED.
Anyone top that?

This does not top that but.....

My cousin got into Brown with an 1190 (out of 1600) on the SAT. He is currently a senior there and plays lacrosse.

The fact that he is an athlete has everything to do with this, but usually even the athletic recruits at Ivy schools have 1250 plus on the SAT.

Depending upon how good a LAX bro he is, this is totally standard. My friend is a nasty squash player and got into Yale with a sub 1100 SAT. They love their raquette sports.

Thanks

I had really good test scores and maybe they figured that a hitch in the military and a newborn kid had straightened me out. They were wrong, but it was still probably a +EV bet.
