$10 to do a Math Problem

I already posted this in the Math and Probability forums, and I'm growing impatient at a lack of response.

The first person to give a verifiable answer to following problems will be shipped $10 on Stars or FTP.

I'm a bit rusty on my stats, and can't figure this out.

What is the variance of the following two situations?

Situation 1:
Getting 1.5:1 on a coin flip

Situation 2:
Getting 6:1 on a single number, on a the roll of a die

Please show all steps.

FWIW: I have the EVs calculated as:

1:
(1.5x-1x)/2 = 0.25x = E(x)

2:
(6x-5x)/6 = 0.167x = E(x)

If no solution is found within 24 hours from this post, the funniest reply to this thread (totally subjective) will be awarded the $10.
