Brag: Saved $100k -- Woohoo

I finally have $100k saved (2/3 stocks, 1/3 money market). It has taken me almost 7 years to get to this point.

Seven years ago, I had a nice cocaine habit (helluva drug). Blew (literally -- haha) through $50k of savings and ended up with $30k in credit card debt. Typical drug addict story. Started doing it once in awhile at parties, then only weekends, then every day.

Finally got my act together, quit the devil's drug cold turkey, got a job and sloooooooowly erased the credit card debt and saved money. Played poker not high and started winning and actually keeping the money instead of donking it off.

Brag: $100k saved.
Beat: Should be $250k saved if I wasn't such an idiot.
Variance: Stock market could go down, health damage from coke use (good check-ups though), and you never know, I could go on a bender again.

in all seriousness though, well done. But the jokes about it are obviously a must in here.

I had the most annoying situation a few months back where I was out partying at a strip club with some friends. I'm all about doing a bump, and figure the easiest place is in the champagne room with some great sloot. So I get some dances, and we get to talking. And she's all anti drug ! nooooo ! When does that ever happen with strippers ? She must be the only one.

We've entered an age where stripping is considered a legitimate way for a woman to become financially independent.

36.

It sounds like so little to have saved at this point in my life, but I bet it is more than 90% of people my age. I have zero credit card debt.

It was a fun run I had. I would hate to know how much I spent on blow and hookers Grew out of it for the most part. Just started getting old. Would do coke just to do it and not even for fun. For the most part I did it by myself too. I wasn't the type to go to a club or do it a party.

I would live at ATM machines since everything was always done with cash. Now I rarely go to an ATM machine.

I even cashed out my 401k of like $15k and paid some insane early-withdrawal fee and spent that in two months. I then took cash advances on the credit card. That was pretty much rock bottom when I was playing credit card bingo.

You could have $100 and be saving money and it would put you ahead of most people your age. My Dad just retired at 55 and it shocks me that I keep meeting people close to his age with the same intentions that haven't even begun saving or investing money.
