Brian Townsend interviews Doyle Brunson

I'm surprised nobody has posted this yet. "Pro On Pro"... pretty cool idea, IMO. Pretty decent interview, but I already knew most of the stuff about Doyle, since he's one of my favorite players. I didn't realize how many times he's gone broke though. 100+... sick.

good read. also interestingly he busted to ZeeJustin in WSOPe, and he said he viewed the 'kid' as a 'liberal player' who played 510 os very fast and aggressive earlier in the tourney. so, doyle thought zj would be a good spot for a double up. im not one to question sir doyle, but this must of been a bad read on his part. zj is a very talented thinking player.

Formatting an online article like a print mag with columns that don't make sense bugs me, but the interview was interesting.

QFT. Columns implies top->bottom, rinse/repeat. Horizontal rules would have made their layout choices a lot easier to follow.

If you see someone make a crazy play when you first start playing with them, good poker sense should make you think that the player is a donk. Obviously DB didn't know that ZJ actually IS a solid player, so he (DB) just went with the information he already had.

Doesn't look like it was formatted for online viewing at all except for a resize (which, IMO, is probably why the images look a little weird). On the top it says the interview was made for WPT Magazine.

good point. i didn't see the hand, but i doubt ZJ was a 'donk'. even if he did get caught in that hand, you probably got to give zj credit for pulling a move. hes a great player and i just think doyle in his old age did not have a 'game recognize game' moment. lol.

I disagree... when a great player sees another player who is unknown fire a triple barrel bluff or whatever with T5o, the VAST majority of the time that unknown is simply a terrible aggro donk.

That because the source is a print article in the WPT mag and those are the pics we were given, not much we could do about the graininess.

Re: Brian Townsend interviews Doyle Brunson

It's interesting how he admits that Chip Reese always owns him. I was reading Brunson's 'My 50 most memorable hands' at Borders today. There was one hand there vs Chip Reese. I don't think I remember the exact cards on the flop but i'm pretty sure there where no face cards. This was a hand from the early 70's.

It was something like Doyle opens A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and Reese calls behind.

(NL HE)
FLOP: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Doyle checks, Chip Checks.

TURN: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Doyle Checks, Chip bets, Doyle check/raises, Chip calls.

RIVER: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Doyle shoves a significant amount and Chip calls with 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

After Doyle sees the hand Chip tells him that he put Doyle on a busted flush. A few hands go by and Doyle asks Chip what he would have done if the river was a diamond giving Chip a flush. And Chip replies "I would have folded."

This is a great way of interviewing.

It's pretty rare that the interviewer exactly understands what the interviewee is telling (whether it's poker, sports, music or any other special profession), so it's refreshing to see this format and the quality is quite high.

This must be one of Chip's memorable hands, because Doyle always talks about the call he made on the river w/ J high when both players (Jack Strauss?) missed their straight draw

He didnt specify Zee was a donk - in fact Zee going deep in the WSOP horse event likely meant he had a bit of prior info on him. He basically said that Zee was playing out in the margins and would take him on to try and get a quick double.

I could be wrong, but when i read it, i didnt read it as "the random kid was an over aggro fish".

I dont know really. I prolly would have asked him how the internet is affecting the big game(more than just omaha thing)

Who was the best young internet player in the mix games?

How he would do against some of the specialist nl holdem players?

Would he play aba heads up 1k 2k right now?

Ask him if other pro's made fun of Jamie Gold after they saw Doyle own him so hard on HSP?

Ask him something about internet poker being illegal and chances it gets legalized in the future(like barryg said)

I dont know I dont really have good questions. I am just saying the ones he asked are the same ones you hear doyle answer every single time he gives an interview.

Rootabager 10-31-2007 12:17 AM

Re: Brian Townsend interviews Doyle Brunson

Where does he think Sammy Farha gets his money?

Ask him about Absolute cheating scandal?

Ask him about all the guns he has in his house?

Ask him if people make fun of Todd Brunson for looking like a goon?

Future of the big mix games in Bobby's Room( if they will get bigger, new games)

How much longer does he think he can stay at the top of his game with his old age?

I am sure everyone can think of better questions than me.
