Are the HOH 3 ICM calcs correct?

Here is why I ask if the ICM calcs in HOH3 are correct. I see the math worked out, so it looks like it should be correct. But when I put the numbers into the chillin ICM calculator, the numbers don't agree.

Problem 39. Here are the ICM calcs for Players A, B, SB, and BB, based on the stacks on p. 257:

A = .3268
B = .1519
SB = .3268
BB = .1945

Those don't match the book, which are on p. 263 (and adjusted from 500/300/200 to 50/30/20 prize pool):

A = .3326
B = .1470
SB = .3326
BB = .1877

What explains this? Are the difference meaningless?

Rounding errors? I don't think the differences are enough to change decisions.

.5 - .7 % differences are definitely meaningful. Either (a) the book has a user / calculator error or {b) you have an error or the calculator you are using has an error.

The ICM algorithm is really simple though, so I doubt it's the calculator. Please post complete description of the hand (stacks, payout, etc).

I don't think I can give a description of the hand in the book. There was a thread in the Books/Publication forum that said people could discuss the problems in any of the HOH books, but could not, b/c of copyright restrictions, list the problems in their discussion of them.

But I also used another ICM calc available on the web and got the same result at the chillin ICM calc.

I had hoped that MM might comment, but so far, no.

Interesting comment from another poster:

niether one are "incorrect" because neither one is "correct" they are modelled estimations.

I've never understood ICM to operate like this. Anyone else?

ICM is a formula that turns a chip stack into a dollar value. There is no "exact" way to convert a chip stack into a dollar value. However, the ICM formula has been generally accept as a very accurate estimation.

cant u just list the stack sizes? thats all you need for ICM right. you cant copyright that

HOH3 had wrong %'s for coming 3rd and 4th in the ICM example iirc.

Sure:

A = 5000
B = 1500
SB = 5000
BB = 2000

I understand your first two statements. But what I'm a little confused about is whether everyone ICM calcs should be the same--everyone should get the same percentages--if you accept the ICM in principle, and decide to use it for strategy.
