c/r or b/3b?
 

hey all,
Any time I flop a set after villian has raised pf and he has position on me, I find myself unsure of how to extract the most from him. If I'm nearly positive villain will c-bet, is a c/r the best play? If he didn't hit, he'll just fold but if he did he'll call or raise. If he hit the flop hard, we're playing for stacks with either line but I hate leading into villain after he raised pf only to have him fold and get no value out of my set. That leads me to think that I should c/r when I know villain will follow up his pfr with a c-bet. Is that standard or no? How're you guys making the decision between the two? I know it's a very general situation and there are lots of factors like flop texture, etc but lemme know what you think.

25NL 6-max
Hero is in bb with 55
folded to button who raises to 1, sb folds, Hero calls
flop: 2s 5c 10h

i almost always just bet into them, because i'd rather shoot for stacking my opponent than winning 1 extra bet. if villain has a low to moderate pfr, then i'm definately betting into them, because people who raise few hands hate to let go of them. they will often imagine that you are putting a move on them, even if they just have overs or something.

Depends solely on your read on the villain at this point. Also depends on how the villain views you as well. Do you have a history with this villain? Have you raised a c-bet in the past and showed down crap. Is villain a calling station?

There is a lot more to a poker hand than just the cards you are dealt.

honestly, there's a lot of reads to take into account.

If a player is cautious and smart and will recognize a donkbet as strength, then do the stack a donk. Check/call flop. Checkraise turn.

Some players I lead weak cause I KNOW they will raise me.

I don't checkraise the flop too much because that looks like a monster. I prefer bet and 3 bet if I can.

I bet into him hoping he hit. If he didn't you'll take it down right there and you wouldn't have won much from him anyway with a c/r. Those times he does hit you will be able to build a bigger pot b/3b than c/r because bigger bets on early streets get multiplied into huge bets on later streets. You can take down a lot of small pots and that's good but you also need to be building as big of a pot as you can with your big hands. Most of your profit will come from them.
