Beginner curious about what to buy next...
I basically started playing golf back in May when a buddy of mine said he had 2 sets of old clubs that he wasn't using anymore so he gave them to me.
So I got a free bag and two sets of clubs. The bag is an old-ass Palmer bag but the course I play on rents out a pull cart or others have golf carts. Anywho, the 2 sets of irons I have are Golden Bear and Killer Bee so obviously not like top of the line stuff. I was thinking of asking for something golf-related for Christmas/birthday this year so I was curious what you guys thought? |
Re: Beginner curious about what to buy next...
How good are you? Do you keep score? How much will you be playing over the winter months?

I play about 1-2 times a week at a local walking 9-hole course. I do keep score and I usually shoot around 10-15 over.

Lessons are never a bad idea. If you just started playing this year I'm sure you'd benefit. Ask around, find a PGA pro- I'm sure it would do you a lot of good.

Save your money (or whoever's buying you presents' money) and get a series of 5 lessons. It will pay dividends down the road way more than having "nice" clubs right now will. |

Agree: get a decent swing THEN buy nice clubs and get them fitted...not the other way around.

While those iron sets aren't top of the line, they certainly are good enough to last you another 6 months - 1 year while you get a bit better and understand your game a little more. (Although it sounds like you're off to a good start, well done.)
