High Stakes Poker thread (10/15) (spoilers possible)

By popular demand, here's the thread for this week's High Stakes Poker show, with the correct date as well. Also, I start the HSP threads Monday evening (it's the WSOP threads I start in the morning, since I'm not here to start one shortly before the show starts).

I dunno, he's been playing like that for a while now.

I'm surprised that Harman let those JJ go. She's looking to call ~90 more to see a total pot of ~250 (obv. numbers not exact, she didn't give an exact chip count). She only needs 36% equity! So it's a call if he's got KK+, AK. It's still a call if he's got QQ+, AK. The only thing I can think of is that she thinks he might not be able to do that with "just" AK, since he was pushing into 2 players with all that preflop action already.

I think Jamie has shown that he wants to be tricky enough that you have to suck it up and call with the JJ there.

EDIT: now that I think about it, she may have had 120 more rather than 120 total. I suppose that might push it to a fold, especially if she feels he's really strong here.

I noticed that thread. They just thought you should have searched for the answer yourself.

Anyone else think Eli's openraise to 15k from the CO with AQo was a bit too much? Blinds of 3/6/12/24.

LOL at Gabe's comments at the end about Phil and Brandon Adams being afraid to put their entire bankrolls on the line.

I think he meant all the money they had on the table, not all the money they had (his expression was incorrect)

Gabe and AJ had some killer lines this show. At the very start I think there were three lines in 5 minutes that had me busting a gut. Although, I can't remember any of them now.

Also, what the hell was with the last 20 minutes. I think we saw 4 hands and 10-15 minutes of commercials.

so next week Helmuth calls Phil G. a nit? Please Phil, tell me you bend the other Phil over the poker table a bugger him while challenging him to 200/400 heads up.

Seriously, Phil, I'll say what everyone's been thinking since they saw you on the show:

you're a damn fine good looking man.

I would probably raise as much as I thought Sammy would call. So 15k is a little low.

I think it went something like:

Gabe: Phil Hellmuth has got a weird look on his face... like a shy ostrich who's looking to mate.

AJ: I'll take your word for that one.

Gabe: You don't watch National Geographic?

AJ: Yeah but the ostrich episodes are not my favorite.

It's rare that anything on TV gives me a 30 second belly laugh. These guys do it pretty consistently once or twice per show.

quite possibly yes. boring as bat [censored]. hopefully the lineup changes next week..
The commentary on the other hand was gold as usual.. that ostrich part has to be one of the best lines on HSP.

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/15)

We almost had a Hellmuth blowup if he had called with those queens... I guess that would've livened things up a bit. If Sammy could just keep his mouth shut!

It sickens me to watch Hellmuth with his [censored] eating ear to ear +$300,000 grin.

Lol being called sweaty and a nit in your first ep, things arent going well for jman so far on TV :-(

Wonder which insult he thinks is worse, Im thinking nit..

Also that K7-o preflop call against Hellmuth was nuts even by Farha's uber Lagtard standards..

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/15)

I for one love Sammy playing so horribly, makes me laugh when he's outdrawing Hellmuth. Seems the more he loses the crazier he gets. Hellmuth might be getting a lot tighter now that he's up almost 300k. I missed that Ostrich comment when watching it the first time but just caught it now ... Gabe Kaplan is the funniest man alive lol.

Tornado69 10-16-2007 02:14 AM

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/15)

Amazes me how much Sammy can bet on so little ... that k7 hand with that value bet on the river turning it into a 300k + pot is just sick. Playing an uncapped PL Omaha game with Farha would have to be as stressful as it gets in poker. The guy is fearless and sick in the head ...

Re: High Stakes Poker thread (10/15)

Im tired of this table.

I would need stack sizes, but I'm pretty sure Jeniffer's JJ hand on paper was bad, but I think it was Jamie's speech that did it, and I have no prob with a player of her caliber going with her read despite good odds (it should also be noted that her read was good in a sense, it was clear that in Jamie's mind he had the nuts and really wanted her to call).

G-bucks didn't come off well this week and since he only gets to play the end of one day doesn't seem like he'll get a chance at redemption or a return next season, which is too bad.

Gabe mentioned "if he's been watching the game", are players waiting to be assigned seats allowed to watch the game on monitors or just by hanging out in the room? (I think we've seen the latter before, but then they booted some guys last week so who knows).

at the very end, hellmuth says, "morry's supposed to invite rich billionaires to the game, and he invites the tightest phil he could find," or something like that.

jman squirms in his seat a little bit. the look on his face is priceless.
he should've challenged huforrollz!

got to love gold's 400bb+ push all in preflop with AK vs a raise and reraise from the 2 tightest players at the table. God it would have been sick to see helmuth take him down if he ended up having KK+
