Another story that our opponents will use to argue against us. This guy isn't a college student or loser. He had a sweet job with a very successful company.

Crime stories are fairly common. Did you hear about Enron? How about Jim Bakker? What about all of the Catholic priest molestation stories?

There is no way to escape the fact that 3% to 4% of the population are problem gamblers or worse. Addiction to all kinds of things is about that rate, including alcohol, drugs and more. Do we belittle these sordid tales of human failure? No, but we can not escape them, either.

What ever the number is it, isn't important, it is well below 10% by almost everyone’s measure. Everyone knows from common sense that some percentage of the population will over do anything that gives the least semblance of pleasure. Hell last night on TV they had a program on about Hoarders? You couldn't even get into these people's homes they had so much crap.

The American people are a pretty tolerant bunch in most respects; we'll put up with a pretty good amount of crap before we "rise up" and start dumping tea in the harbor.

From the beginning of this country we've always had a sore spot for Kings and other elected or self appointed "Princes" telling us they knew better than "we the people" did.

I wouldn't try to get into a debate with anyone of the dishonest anti-gambling "experts" you'll waste your time IMPO. All you have to tell an honest one is; you'll federally fund all the studies and problem gambler clinics they can dream of from licensing fees alone.

This is actually an argument for our side. Remember the UIGEA has been around for almost a year now, and the wire act, what 40 yrs, and this guy still had the motivation and opportunity to destroy his life and others.

This happened on the prohibitionists' watch not on regulatory advocates' watch.

If a regulatory scheme had been in place then this guy would have had a much better chance of accessing the help he sorely needed. Instead, he was thrown to the wolves by the prohibitionists while they thumped their chests and their bibles.

Prohibitions don't work because they don't really stop anything, except help from getting to the troubled.
