Adding 3rd computer to network - can\'t get Internet access

I've got a home network set up on a Linksys WRT54G broadband router, with DSL service.

I have my main computer working fine on the Internet. I have my Dell laptop connected to the wireless network fine, it shares files AND Internet access with no problems.

I have now added a third computer, a desktop, to the network. It shares files just fine, so it seems to be networked properly. However, I cannot get it to access the Internet.

I am running XP Pro SP2 on all computers. I have checked the Internet settings on the third computer via IE, they seem to be fine. I have gone in to my router settings and made sure the Internet Access restrictions are disabled, and I turned off the "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" setting for now to see if that helped. No dice. Not sure what I might be missing...any suggestions?

Try this on the 3rd computer.

Start > Run > type "cmd" (no quotes) > enter > type "ipconfig /all" > enter

Post the results here.

And re-enable "block anonymous internet requests"

I believe that's under "Access Restrictions". You can set up a policy there and give it a list of allowed MAC addresses. That was enabled when I first started, but I turned it off a while ago, and it made no difference.

Hmm...Go check the DNS Servers addresses on your working computers. Enter those into your TCP/IP settings on your 3rd computer.

You're welcome. If I may offer some advice as well: I don't know how old your kids are, but you will save a lot of headaches by setting up a limited user account for them on that computer. You'll never have to worry about spyware or randomly installed programs.

LOL what gave that away?

That was my plan, and I'd certainly welcome any suggestions. They're only 5 & 8, but you can never start too soon. The computer's going to be used for a secondary office computer, IE my wife might use it for email and other work at times, I might use it for the occasional poker game, and then my kids will be allowed to play around on it at times - MSPaint, kids' websites, maybe some other kid's programs, and I guess my oldest might want to start using Word soon.

My thinking was to set up an account for them that only allows them to run certain programs, and then to filter IE content. The former I'm sure I can figure out how to do through Windows, but filtering IE I'm going to have to investigate further. Stopping them from downloading, that I have no idea how to do.

There are Parental Filter add-ons for Firefox. Setting a limited user account simply won't allow them to install anything even if they manage to download it.
