Re: 2-7 blind defence

I would have folded this to a button raise in Round 1. You are drawing 3 out of position. I think everything is fine on latter streets.

I may be overdoing the stealing and defending. my background is in shorthanded LHE so I am used to doing both with a very wide range

what would be your cutoff for defending in this spot vs an unknown?

Against a normal opponent, I would defend with any 2-card draw to an 8 with a deuce. Against an opponent that tries to steal on a regular basis, I would keep the 9 and draw 2.

Probably a 2-card draw to an 8 that includes a 2 or a 3. I rarely see people trying to steal with a 3 card draw, so defending with 3 card draws will usually put you behind. To be honest, 2-3-8 is behind the range of a button raise against an unknown.

I think this is fine unless you know button to be fairly tight. Given that button appears willing to spew bets and still draw two, you have even more reason to play.

You are not all that far behind a two-card draw and you are getting better than 3:1 predraw. If you feel confident about your play, go ahead and defend. Otherwise fold. It's not going to be a huge mistake either way.

A 3,4, or 7 give you a decent draw; you are roughly 75% to pick up at least one of them. (A bit less since it is likely some of them are in the button's hand.) You can also catch good by hitting, say, 86, and you might continue with a bare 6 or 8 here as well. Plus if you make a pat hand nobody will ever give you credit.
