watching someone else overtip
 

last session a guy sat down at my table and i think it may have been about his 2nd time ever playing.

after dragging a smallish pot (50-70) he tips the dealer 15$ as the dealer leaves. i get sad because i see my EV going down the drain if the guy keeps tipping like this.

i dont say a word to him as its his money and he can do as he likes with it. but at the same time im thinking about how this might be a bad thing for the table if he goes on a heater and takes alot of the money out of play with some big tips

is there an amount where you would chime in and say something. either directly; you dont need to tip so much, or indirectly like big tipper over here?

I don't think I am going to give you the answer you want to hear, but my opinion is no. If someone wants to tip alot, that's fine, but I bet if someone stiffs a dealer no one says anything.

I play enough that I rarely see anyone say to the player after stiffing the dealer. And I will say something if the person hasn't tipped, but then I become the bith, and that's fine.

Why would you want to tell someone not to give the dealer a tip. This is their job. They are working for a living, not just doing it a hobby or for fun as MANY in the poker room are.

I know plenty of pros as well and watch them tip accordingly. I've seen $15 or $30 tips, especially to women. But while your EV is going down, their bills can't get paid because they dollared and stiffed to death by everyone else.

Don't ever say a thing. This is rare and for all you know the guy is a very rich man. I've seen guys like that tip an entire pot. Usually it means that they're bad players and they've got plenty of money to splash around. Never mind what he's 'taking off the table' as there's plenty more in his pocket.

And good for the dealer. Let'm make a few extra bucks.

a no answer is fine. i was just curious if you would say anything. if not thats fine. i didnt say a word either.

kinda silly to watch someone give away all their profit by tipping, and if the person doesnt know that a 1 or 2 dollar tip is acceptable for a win then i thought maybe some people might let that person know. i didnt let him know but wonder if i should have said something, for my sake and his [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I find it pretty abhorrent that you would try to deprive the dealers of their livelihood.

This is none of your business and imo you would be completely out of line to even think about saying something

If you don't like money coming off the table to pay for the service of a live dealer then your resolution is simple - play online

It is not evil to say something here. You just have to be artful and say something like:

"Wow, I wish I was running so well today that I could afford to be so generous. You sir are a saint to the poker dealer profession."

srsly some of the people in this forum are so rediculous.

abhorrent that im depriving dealers of their livelihood.

give it a [censored] break.

this may have been this guys first time ever playing live for all i know. he may not know that a 1 or 2 dollar tip is standard.

You don't have to talk to the over-tipper, just make sure he hears what you say to the dealer the next time you win a pot:

"Dealer, here's $2 for dealing me the winning hand. You have another $2 coming every time you do that again."

People learn by seeing what others are doing - just help the process along.
