X-post: $55 50k HH review

I posted this in HSMTT, but I thought it would be a good example HH for smaller-stakes players and less experienced players to learn something from.

AQo kind of sucks vs an EP open here, especially since we're playing for stacks on any board we hit. I wasn't comfortable playing for stacks preflop, and I think my reverse implied odds postflop are enough to let the hand go.

Hand #281 - How you decide to raise with air, when hvillain's betting strong after the flop? How did you gauge it was c-bet?

Ah, I was hoping someone would ask about this; it's one of my favorites.

First.. villain is going to be c-betting a lot of hands here, since this is an ideal board to c-bet. So it doesn't indicate to me that he necessarily has anything.

Here's the other thing, though: We're both relatively deep for this stage of the tournament (~50BB) and we're by far the biggest two stacks at the table. The fact that I have him covered and have position on him puts him in a [censored] spot. He doesn't know if I have one pair, air, a draw, or the nuts. And he's smart enough to realize this raise means he may have to commit his whole stack to find out. It's really hard to do that without a monster here, especially since we're getting close to the big money, and he knows that even if he folds the best hand this time, he's much more profitable if he takes future opportunities to pick up chips.
