NL400, top two pair on a 3 flush board

Not really sure how I should be playing this hand. Do I give him credit for a flush in a limped pot like this or do I put him on draw as he played it kind of passively.

$2/$4 NL 6max game

Hero (SB): $395.35
BB: 590.5
UTG: $587.80
MP: $613.00
CO: $404.30
BTN: $2173.75

Preflop: Hero is dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 Players)
UTG calls $4.00, MP calls $4.00, Button calls $4.00, Hero calls $2.00, BB checks

Flop: ($20) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 Players)
Hero bets $16.00, Button calls $16.00, 3 folds

Turn: ($52) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)

Why did you bet the flop from SB with 5 players in the pot?

for value and protection?

Are you suggesting I check the flop and see what action the flop gets from players to act? This is definitely reasonable. At the time my thinking was "I have top two pair on a dangerous board, I must bet out to charge any draws".

Yes I'm suggesting that. There are 5 players on the flop, you can check and call any 1 bet, fold to any 2-bets. You also get a better idea of what others hold. As played, anyone with a made flush or flush draw, or TPTK etc can just let you bet into them to the river and you'd get yourself into a dilemma.

Checking the flop costs as much as your 1-bet(since you'd fold to any RR on the flop right?), and might've given you a free card.

Bet the flop and obviously call river as played. If you think he'll call again with AXc or something, then bet/fold is probably better, otherwise just check/call.

Call the river for sure - he might think you missed your FD and trying to steal the pot wheras he also just called down with a FD that never hit. Besides the flush we are almost ever ahead here, and if he actually had a flush he would have shown you that be the turn.

Further i dont think a flop lead is that good like already mentioned. People tend to flatcall with a flush and give you not much of an idea where you really stand til the raise you. But like i said before - this never happend and so your hand is very likely best, unless he is on the very tricky (but not value maximizing) side of players.

Easy call.

So I called the river and he shows me Jc7x for a turned straight. No idea what he was doing with that hand preflop but I appreciate all the insight. Thanks.
