$16: Getting lost with top pair

Early in tourney, no solid read on villain although he seems a littel loose passive.

I fold pf.
Play flop the same. Check turn for pot control. Probably call up to 1/2-2/3 pot bet on river.

We're often ahead here on the turn, though perhaps not very often when we bet and get called.

I check behind in order to get a cheaper showdown vs someone who has us beat, and in order to perhaps allow him to bluff on the river. Might not be too likely, given his passitivity, but it does happen.

On the river I will call most bets of sound size. Obv try to get it in on a Q river. Ace on the river needs to be played for value, but not viciously. Like...there is no point in raising a river bet from villain if the ace rivers.

My range is AJ/AQ here, so I fold preflop.
As played I remeber why I fold it preflop (hard to play/know where you stand, bad reverse implied odds).
I probably bet again on the turn as he could ALSO have K*, AJ-, some draw.

I check and then if he bets river it's close, depends on the card and player, but ez v-bet if he checks to you on the river. Also I have no problem with pf.

BB has weaker ace, pair+gutter, gutter, random K, sometimes ~66 and obv us beat sometimes too. Weak Ks and pps usually fold but aces and most draws call. And we have decent equity vs 2 pair. Is ~400 bet/call bad, BB has 800 behind? And esp against this guy who's not gonna bluff river, he might call a blank river with 66 if we check this tho.

i think im playin this pre. checking turn is best most likely. river really depends on villain. id be inclined to call a smallish bet and bet if checked to.

Preflop is fine depending on your style. I check the turn for reasons already listed relating to pot control. I call any normal bet size on the river.

Re: $16: Getting lost with top pair

On the turn I make a bet of about 200-300 and on the river I do the same if checked to.

If he bets anywhere a significant amount I'd fold.

It seems to me its better to put money in the pot when we're probably ahead and I dont see him check raise bluffing. Am I the only one betting again on the turn?

edited: its really nice seeing those overcards to our ten because it reduces the amount of aces that are beating us. I.e. a4 aq ak aj and ak aq are both pretty unlikely IMO, moreso because they are on board.
