Playing overcards, missed flop, level one

Level one, 5-table sit-n-go, all stacks roughly equal. One off the button, I called with QcJc, flop is 9-6-3 rainbow. Are there EVER the right odds, given how precious chips are in early rounds, to bet overcards in a situation like this?

If you're going to play that, raise it. Then a c-bet may take it down. As played, check and see the turn.

Sorry, I'm new to real money and to this formu, and despite having read a lot of poker books, I often see abbreviations on this forum that I don't understand. What is a "c-bet"?

Most of the time the best strategy is to play "fit or fold".
If you hit something, the opponents will usually pay you off. So don`t do this mistake by yourself and call when you have a very thin draw.
Btw, FAQ answers a lot of these questions. I think it helped everybody so far to read them.

A "Continuation Bet". You raised before the flop, and then you bet when checked to you on the flop, whether the flop hit you or not.
Definitely check out the FAQ.
