Grad school Admission question

Hey, I'm currently in the process of applying for grad school. I want to send applications to 3 or 4 safe schools, 3 or 4 reach schools, and 3 or 4 schools where I have a good balance of the two. What is a good resource in finding out how likely I am to get into a program depending on GRE scores, GPA's, etc?

Edit: also, how important is taking the GRE subject test for my area?

Thanks

Re: Grad school Admission question

This sort of info is actually hard to find for PhD programs, because most of the programs are so small and applications are considered individually much more so than college, law school, etc.

Many schools will have this info on their websites, but they aren't in the US News rankings, for example.

With respect to the GRE subject tests, you didn't even tell us what subject you are applying for! I didn't take a subject test for my program (which I am just starting this fall), but my field (political science) doesn't have a subject test. I'm sure they are much more important in some fields than others.

This is really hard to find but there really isn't much way to know the answer here based solely on GRE/GPA anyway. Most of getting in comes from having one of the profs on the admissions committee know one of your recommenders, or declaring interest in some semi-obscure subfield in which the particular department is looking to fulfill their needs for a grad student.
