Keep money on table with table change?
 

A 1/2 NL (min $60, max $200) game was broken up by the floor and a player was moved to my table, also 1/2 NL. When the game broke, he had $1,200 in play on the other table.

Is he required to keep $1,200 in play at the new table?


(I didn't see anything in Robert's Rules about this situation.)

I know your allowed to bring your full stack to a new table from a broken game, but not sure if it is mandatory.

Depends on particular casino. Check a recent thread on this issue.

At Ontario casinos it is a rule that whatever you leave the table with goes on the next table.

pretty much universally,if you leave a table and go to another table of the same type and limit you are "required" to go into the game with what you have regardlell of the amount be it short or over.

Umm, that's not true....It depends on the casino

I've seen a couple of variations for broken-table, all at the Borgata.

You can bring in the amount of the biggest stack on the table. (People seem to care when there are several stacks around 2-3x max buyin)
You can bring everything. (when you stack is so big and the rest of the table is at typical buy-in. "OMG, what game were you playing?")
You can bring whatever you want and cash out the rest. (When no one cares)

When a real interpretation was called for, #1 seem to be the only one that was ever applied to me.

The rules are a bit more restrictive/enforced for must-move and table transfer situations, I've observed.

From Robert's Rules - Section 3, 'The Buy In':
"3. A player coming from a broken game or must-move game to a game of the same limit may continue to play the same amount of money, even if it is less than the minimum buy-in. A player switching games voluntarily must have the proper buy-in size for the new game."

His example deals with bringing a short stack less than the min buy-in to the new table. He doesn't address intentionally reducing one's stack size during the table switch. So I think it's open to interpretation and like many rules may differ from room to room.

I think it depends on the room. Here in So. Cal., I believe all the rooms will allow you to reduce. I can't think of any instance where a player was required to bring all his/her chips.

Player coming from a broken game or a must move game has to bring their entire stack. Player on a "table change" list must come in with the appropriate buy in for that game as the chips only belong to the table they were at, not all the tables in play.
