Semtex,

Didn't the Wolves lose to a Lakers team that went on to get buttsecksed by the Pistons? I think that was the year anyway. If so that demonstrates that the Lakers were quite beatable.

its tough to say. there is no way to quantify whether they self destructed in the finals or whether they got outplayed. either way detroit was playing at a really high level. they shot poorly all season and won with defense and then turned it around and averaged like 10-15 more points a game then they had all playoffs. Either way losing to the Lakers should not be a knock on KG. If KG went to the Pistons instead of Sheed they probably win multiple championships. The same goes for if he was on that Lakers team instead of Malone. His supporting cast was basically Cassel and Spree and he led them to the Western Conference Finals and played a superior Lakers team very well.

People (Stein, Magics announcers) are really underestimating the Cs schedule. Obviously they haven't gone through the big west teams, but that's expected. They beat a decent Toronto team, New Jersey twice, and lets not forget the absolute crushing of Denver.

I mean, look at Orlando's scheudle. ooh, sonics, t'wolves, and knicks, oh my.

kidcolin,

I don't think they are being given the mad props they deserve either nga. When they eventually settle out I prefer the Sagarin rankings over the Stein ones since those are just armchair QB touchy-feely ones. I think Hollinger is loony so can't really prefer his. The big flaw with the Sagarin ones that Stein doesn't have is they seem to weight a game in November as heavily as a game in May and thus don't account for injuries or momentum.

Also, the Suns beat the Magic, I think it was fairly easy actually. And I also think it was on the second night of a back-to-back. I watched the game and aside from the man-child that is Dwight Howard I don't remember being particularly impressed. Barbosa went for like 39 in the win, which did end up being necessary because the big three all had off nights IIRC, and I think this was the game in which Raja Bell got hurt.

Cassell was a top three point guard in the NBA that year.

I agree though, that Pistons team was totally awesome (they were at like 70-win pace after they got Rasheed) and so was the Lakers team that they beat, but a lot of people seem to have an agenda to downgrade both teams.

I just looked up Cassell on basketball-ref.. I knew he was good, but damn, he's had a great career.

Something I want to address: how many arenas in the NBA play music while the game is going on? I know I've heard it before, but me and a buddy were watching the Cs/Raps game a couple weeks ago and it drove us nuts. It was on constantly. Then I noticed the same thing in PHX. And in Orldando. What gives? Do people really want to hear Akon beats when they're trying to watch a game?

tuq,

those are clearly the best rankings imo

kc,

i could be wrong, but i always thought some arenas play music when their team is on offense to "keep them in rhythm" while playing some off-beat stuff when the opposing team is on O

It's really to keep the crowd in the game.

the best part is the greatest crowds don't need all that BS.

Probably the most underrated team player and offensive facilitator in NBA history. Any team he went to instantly became good, no matter how crappy they had been before (t-wolves, clippers), and when he left or became injured they went back to being crappy. Marco Jaric for Sam Cassel has to be one of the most lopsided trades ever.

Marco Jaric for a saltine cracker is lopsided as well.
