Problems connecting Mac Leopard to Wireless Network
 

Hi - if anyone could help it would be great

Recently purchased version of Leopard from apple for my macbook. Which has no problem connecting to my home wireless network (connects automatically). However decided to use Bootcamp to install my version of Windows Vista x64 - which runs perfectly on my home computer.

I believe I installed it correctly - according to the bootcamp manual however when I actually go into Windows on my macbook it's unable to get any connection from my home wireless network. I asked Windows to diagnostic the problem and it said -

"A cable is not plugged into the network adapter 'Local Area Connections'"

And...

"The computer does not have a wireless network adatper installed and configured"


I have also made sure the driver is up to date.

I am really lost as what to do - has anyone experienced this/ similar problem? Have any ideas/ solutions?

what does your wireless monitor say?

1. make sure your radio is turned on
2. Does it see your network?
3. Does the device manager recognize you adaptor?

1. Radio? Is this whilst I am in my Leopard on the MAC HD? If so well my Airport is on
2. When in Leopard on my MAC HD it works fine on my network - but on my Leopard Vista I just get the errors I posted in the original post
3. Device Manager says the drivers are up to date when I tried to upgrade them - so I assume so

Hope that clears things up :/ I went to Apple store but they refused help cause it's on the Microsoft side...so lame

Any other ideas much appreciated - also offering $50 reward if someone works out fix [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

This is a translated version of what I saw in a blog post comment:

First off, there aren't any Mac-provided 64-bit drivers for the wireless card that comes with the MacBook Pro. However there are drivers that work, you just have to install them.

1. Grab the drivers from Dell's website.
2. Run the .exe and unzip the files to C:\dell\drivers\R140747.
3. After you unzip them, it'll launch an install wizard -- cancel it; it won't work anyway.
4. From the Device Manager > right click on the wireless card and choose Update Driver > choose Install from specific location > choose to install from the folder above where the drivers were unzipped to.
5. You may need to restart after you do this.

That said, is there a reason why you chose to install 64-bit Vista? It seems like there's a ton of other compatibility issues... The only reason I see people justifying using 64-bit is because they have > 2GB of RAM.
