Was this a bad time time to resteal

I'm working on learning this technique.

Full Tilt Poker, NL Hold'em Tournament, 50/100 Blinds, 9 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

CO: 3,065
BTN: 2,265
Hero (SB): 2,685
BB: 3,035
UTG: 3,690
UTG+1: 5,325
UTG+2: 1,807
MP1: 2,000
MP2: 2,580

Pre-Flop: (150) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (SB)
6 folds, BTN raises to 350, Hero raises to 2,685 and is All-In, BB folds, BTN calls 1,915 and is All-In

Flop: (4,630) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Turn: (4,630) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

River: (4,630) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: 4,630 Pot
BTN showed Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (three of a kind, Queens) and WON 4,630 (+2,365 NET)
Hero showed A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (Ace King high) and LOST (-2,265 NET)

best conversion yet :-p

bad hand to shove with, considering stacks

i'd like this much more with 89s .. but regardless, you're deep enough to fold pf

it's less likely that you'll share a 9 or an 8 with an opponent. MUCH more likely you'll share the A, that's the only reason I think.

this is so incredibly read dependent that i can't really say much here. but just in general i think 27bb with no antes is too much to shove here. against a known lag with antes in play, it's a lot closer, but aggressive players generally don't 3.5x it here, so i'd just fold.

Without reads on the BTN--mainly, does he raise light in LP, and does he always size his raises PF this way?--it's hard to tell you if this is a good spot to resteal.

What I can say is that you're risking a lot to gain relatively little. There are no antes in play. IMO restealing is best attempted from the SB with antes in play against people raising in LP when folded to them. And, I agree, with hands that are unlikely to be too dominated if you're called.

There are a couple of great threads on restealing in the stickies, and Bond18 has a great thread on 3betting/4betting in his "Things it took me a while to learn" series.

MJBuddy also has a thread somewhere in which people argue the added value of restealing with SCs, not sure exactly where to find it though.

i did realize later when i was waiting for a miracle that he was pretty tight, had i known that i probably would have folded.

So if it was a laggier villian would and say he made it 2.5 or 3x, would the push be correct?

Raise? How much?

Flat call, (this seems wrong since I dont have position and probably wont hit the flop strong enough, right?)?

thanks hagbard (was posting simultaneously). I will look for those, though any additional advice is appreciated.

Your stack is too big to optimally resteal shove here. When you're getting started with resteal shoves, look for a spot where your stack is roughly 15BB.

If BTN is pretty tight, I'd probably fold. I prefer to open pots than trying to outplay PF raisers OOP this shallow. Raising commits you to the hand, and shoving just doesn't seem worth it.

i hate A small for restealing in general, but that aside I still think this is a bad spot based on stack sizes...but mostly it is REALLY dependent on your read on the button.

If you have not done so, I suggest reading Ansky, et al.
