calling thin

Live 12-24

UTG+1 is a total lagtard. He's playing nearly 100% of his hands, will cold-call with almost ATC, and raises PF pretty much on a whim (although he will always raise his good hands). Post-flop, he'll call to the river with any piece or any draw and pay off the river with any pair, but not always with A high. He bluffs a lot with air when he's OOP, and he'll overplay one-pair hands (calling the flop and check-raising the turn with TPNK or 2nd pair).

SB is a loose-passive fish. Calls and cold-calls way too much, chases a bit light, and doesn't usually give much action without a big hand. He'll raise a decent TP hand, though. He knows just how goofy UTG+1 is.

PF: Hero is BB J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
UTG folds, UTG+1 raises, folds to SB, SB calls, Hero calls.

Flop: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players, 6 SB)
SB checks, hero checks, UTG+1 bets, SB calls, Hero calls.

Turn: 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players, 4.5 BB)
SB checks, hero checks, UTG+1 bets, SB calls, Hero calls.

River: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players, 7.5 BB)
SB checks, Hero bets...

lol I guess you've got 3 backdoor draws. That's really about as thin a call as it comes, but by the turn the hand plays itself. I fold more often then I call on that flop. I guess it's not even worth posting if that 7 is an 8.

Just curious, where was this game?

I like this call to close the action on the flop. Its easy to get away from this on the turn when you miss.

I would try for a check/raise on the river though. UTG+1 may have QQ or AK or AQ... The benefit of going for two backdoors is that your hand is hidden. You're more likely to get a bet out of SB that way too.

Yeah but it's not easy to get away from it when you turn a diamond and get stuck for 3 bets only to brick the river on a hand you should have folded on the flop.

The flop call is too thin for my taste. Especially after SB has called (even if he has called light) on an almost drawless flop.

And when I see other players make these kinds of calls and I'm holding QJ+, I pray they'll stay in my game. For the same reason, I really hope you capitalized on this image throughout the remainder of your session.

I'd fold the flop.

Nice catch.
