quad monitor purchase + overall comp protection

i decided to just group my 2 questions im pretty new at this kind of stuff and i have next to no knowledge with comps other then some knowledge in poker(: im going for nova elite next year. 2morrow i should be recieving a quad 20 inch monitor from cinemassivedisplays.com im just wondering if anyone has purchased from them? im sure ill be spending all day figuring it out, but whats more important than that is my overall lack of feeling secure with my computers my laptop is just about finished after 8 months of use theres some sort of virus and god knows what else on it when i rarely use the internet with it besides poker so im curious what else can i really do besides a firewall, virus protection and spyware protection... since ive already been hacked and im not exactly loving the idea of risking as much as i keep on stars i have enough to play 5-10 as my base game but i prefer to start off mass tabling 50-1 or sngs attaining nova elite will mean next to nothing if by midyear i decide to keep even more on my account and finding out that instead of getting ebay, paypal hacked it turns out just a little bit worse... thanks for trying to make sense of this imeasy2read

I hope you got the videocards to handle quad monitors.. For protection you want to go with quality antivirus that wont take up too many resources(Trend Micro and Kaspersky are both great.) As for viruses, you want to start fresh... reformat your drives and reinstall windows. Would recommend imaging your drives(basically a backup), so if a virus does come about your computer can be basically set back to factory defaults in about 5 minutes. As far as viruses go jus dont download anything sketchy, dont goto sketchy sites(ie porn and non major sites) and just generally be aware of what you are downloading. Make ure security questions very hard for your passwords and dont let anyone you dont trust on your computer. Obv dont accept any files from ANYONE. Pm me if you got questions on any of this. hope it helps. pz

big FAQ on protection: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...Number=7858275
Good luck with four monitors, sounds pretty awesome. As for your protection you should have a firewall, something actively scanning your computer for attacks and something that you can run at least once a week to detect attacks IMO. My setup(which was free) is currently Comodo Firewall(best leak test firewall out there), Comodo BOClean(more active protection, but I usually stay pretty safe so I don't need it all that much) and McAffe VirusScan Enterprise(got through my school).
Definitely start with a fresh window's install just to make sure that your safe and don't forget to run Windows Update.

I'm amazed what when people talked about REALLY wanting to lock down their computer nobody mentions running as a limited user. No OS other than Windows lets you run as Admin all of the time. Linux and OSX require a password when doing administrative tasks.

You are safer running as a limited user with no Anti-virus than you are running as Admin with the best anti-virus.

You could but it's a trade off of not being able to play poker online in some cases then (linux/OSX... obviously ps works on OSX but not necessarily HUD or Tracker) but as a limited user can be a good idea if you know that you're poker software will work.

full tilt, stars, pokertracker, postgresql, and pahud all work as a limited user in XP.

Edit: I just checked out cinemassivedisplays. $2699 for 4 20" monitors is like a 120% markup over retail. Those setups are lol-worthy expensive.

yeah, that is ridiculous.

One could easily get 4 monitors for $1000 at 20" (and even perhaps 22") and then grab a 4 monitor mount for somewhere in the $250 range if you are frugal. It is much more significant than a 120% markup. They are just sharks (but hell, people do still buy those things don't they).
