Kinda OT: Should i take a semester off school?
 

Well recently i have become increasingly un-motivated to go to class and doing school etc, and i have been really thinking of taking next semester off (and basically playing poker, traveling). there are many down sides, including upsetting my parents a lot, and possibly never going back to school (which many people have mentioned to me, once you leave you will never go back). Im basically in my 4th semester of college right now. I go to a [censored] state school and get average to bad grades and im currently a business major. Obviously a big choice, and i was hoping too get some feedback, thx everyone

I'm doing it now. I can confirm it's hard to go back. Life is pretty sweet when you have 8 hours a day without conflict to put towards poker. Also, you'll probably make a lot of money and enjoy your life. There's only one way to find out...

this really doesnt have anything to do with winning the 1k, sure the money helps, but i was already thinking about this before last monday. thanks for your help justin <3.

Might as well, right? I mean, speaking from experience, if you aren't into school it's kind of a waste anyway. I sleep-walked through 4 years of school only to basically just give up my very last semester so I'm a few credits short of my degree, but since I knew I wasn't using it immediately after school I had absolutely no motivation to get it.

If you aren't going to apply yourself to school, I don't think there's a whole lot of point to going, and I kind of wish I hadn't. At the same time I have a lot of great memories and made a lot of great friends at school, so you do have to consider that aspect as well.

Speaking from personal experience I'd wait. You will be able to play plenty of poker but it will be hard to go back to school. If I could go back in time I'd go to school while playing in moderation.

You shouldn't be doing anything you don't want to.

It's true it's hard to come back, but you're young and coming back will depend on your motivations in the future. I started my masters on Fall 1996, discover poker on January 1997, leave masters by fall 1997 because I just wanted to do poker then. Life circumstances changed and I came back to finish my masters on 2001 (because I wanted to), no big deal. Today I'm happy with both decisions, 1997 more poker, no school; 2001 more school, no poker.
