Sorry for the noob question. I'm planning to fly from London to Thailand in late Jan, early Feb sometime, but I'm not sure when I want to fly back. Can I get a ticket with a changeable return journey date? Will it cost significantly more?

question:

do you need a power converter for thailand, and most of SE asia for that matter, or can you plug in your north american electronics normally?

Yeah, people have stopped answering questions in this thread. It's more like "Let me tell you about my life in Thailand" now.

probably a stupid question, but stuff here plugs in there right? i know when i went to europe i couldn't plug anything in. that's not the same in thailand is it? like if i want to charge battery packs, etc....

Most US plugs work just fine. I reccomend picking up a power strip anywayz (for like $3) just to be sure though. They are widely available in supermarkets etc.

Google is your friend: http://www.theballinhand.com/

There are two of them (at least there were last year)

The Original Ball in Hand is located in the Rajah Hotel Complex, Sukhumvit Soi 4 (Nana). (downstairs from Sin bar)

The Ball in Hand Asok:

* 314 Square meters
* Featuring Nine Brunswick Metro Pool Tables
* Seven 9 foot tables and two 8 foot tables
* Pro Shop that caters for A-Z of any cue repairs
* Large center bar
* Perfect playing environment for pool players of all levels

Located between Sukhumvit Soi 12 and 14 in the basement of Times Square Building.

Brunswick tables are pricey, that's all I know about it.

This quite obviously depends on the airline you choose. Changeable dates will obviously cost more, how much I dont know.
For my ticket there was a big difference between 6 month and 6 month + 1 day.

But in the end, call the airline you want to fly with...

We have free wi-fi at our Sunrise Tacos sukhumvit Rd Soi 12 to Soi 14 branch as well as internet accesss ( must pay there ) at our Subway at Suk Rd 7/1. Both are open 24 hours a night.

Will be setting up soon a tv and DVD showing some of the past WSOP and other tournaments at the new Sunrise expansion. Will do this early morning and afternoons as we get crowded at night and need a turnover of the seats from 6 p.m. to midnight. I've been wanting to do this and now am motivated to do it sooner rather than later.

Please stop by and say hi.

Im pretty sure the entry thing said nothing about past crimes. You can get visa from ur own country. I got 3x60 days, which means I just need to cross any border for 2 seconds every 60 days to be here for 6 month. If you are not broke I think a 1 year visa is pretty easy obtainable from ur home country too, they just need to see bankstatements saying you are in fact not über broke.

From a NYTimes article:

To catch the infectious Thai spirit of the day (and show your enthusiasm), pack a yellow shirt. The National Commission on the Celebrations has asked everyone to wear yellow shirts (the royal color) every day from Dec. 1 to 5 to demonstrate their love and respect for His Majesty.

You can buy the 'official' King shirts anywhere, pretty much. Polo style seem to be the most popular, and they aren't expensive.

I wouldn't try to use it to buy things. Just go to one of the hundreds of kiosk type money changing places in Bangkok and get them turned into baht as you need them. Or deposit the money at your Canadian ATM while at home and withdraw at will when in Thailand.

Also, Kanchanaburi is a really nice area. I've never been for the festival (which I think remembers those lost) but the town is great.

Relaxed, river centric (obviously) and is quite slowly paced, if you avoid all the tour buses. I got a riverhut, used the bicycle they had to get around and saw all the historical sites. A pretty somber place, but well worth the visit and the scenic train ride in.

In any case, a quick Google search found a bunch of stuff on the festival itself.

[ QUOTE ]

Every year in late November and early December the River Kwai Bridge Festival is celebrated. Highlight of the festival is the Sound & Light Show, which tells the history of the Death Railway, the Hellfire Pass and the Bridge on the River Kwai. Once the 415 km long Death Railway runs from Thailand to Burma to support there the japanese defence lines.

[/ QUOTE ]

I also found some photos of the laser show and fireworks over the bridge.
