There is nothing wrong with your computer. Do not attempt to adjust the monitor. We are controlling the transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image; make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your computer. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to $.05/$.10 NL.

Re: How do I avoid being devoured by a bot?

People said programs (bots) would take a long time to be any good at chess, backgammon, and poker. Bots are now at the level of the top human players in chess and backgammon, and they are decent at heads-up limit hold'em. Bots are weaker in multiplayer limit and in no limit. However, marginally winning bots have been found up to NL $200, and in $20 NL single table tournaments.

Bots may play somewhat predictably, rarely chat, take an unusual amount of time to make decisions, and their pupils don't contract when you mention torturing animals, according to Bladerunner. At the moment, poker bots are still relatively rare, and are more of a nuisance than a threat, but that will probably change in the future.

Bots are easiest to program for limit, full-ring or HU.

You might want to gravitate towards 6-max NLHE cash anyways.

But as for bots, they are not anything to worry about.

Unless you play relatively high stakes OP you shouldn't lose too much sleep.

I've seen discussions about bots in the threads, but never really read them. Are bots people like Irokpoker's friend who download a program that plays for them? Do they exist in the micro world of .02/.04 & 1.00 sngs?

It would be pretty silly to run a bot @ the lowest level micro stake games.

Why? That would be a good place to test a bot. Also, even if the bot does not win much per table-hout, that can add up to a lot if the bot multitables all day.

Some poker sites are said to use bots instead of or in addition to using prop players.
