Saw it in a video, what went wrong?

.25/.50:
SB (Hero): 53.65
BB (Villain) [14.8/0/1.3/27]: 16
UTG: 50
BTN [32.3/16.9/1/65]: 50.60

Hero is in the SB with 4h5s. UTG and Button limp, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop comes (1.90 pot): 5h 4s 8s.

What's your play here? In the video, here's what happened:

Hero checks, BB bets 2, UTG calls, BTN calls, Hero raises to 9.50. BB calls, 2 folds.

Turn comes (24.90 pot): Qh.

Hero bets 6.50, BB calls 6.50 all-in.

River comes: Js

Hero shows: 4h5s (2 pair, fours and fives)
BB shows: 4d8h (2 pair, fours and eights)

The video-maker was commenting on "hero" as he played and said, as the hands showed, "And he just had two pair. And he got smoked. That's...really bad."

He had been commenting on the player's leaks, and seemed to call that hand badly played. What was the problem there? Does the c-r on the flop only fold out hands that are better than yours?

The problem is whoever made this video sucks at poker.

I prefer betting the flop, because

1) our hand is vulnerable and we don't want this flop checked around and give free cards to 3 people.
2) there is a lot of value in betting, while c/r is more expensive and probably won't get calls from a lot of hands we beat.

Hero played terribly but got unlucky. The checkraise is particularly bad because on that board the only hands which will call are draws which have excellent equity against him or better hands.

I like a flop lead, but proabably fold to a raise, maybe overcall and fold the turn. Look at his stats, hes ridic tight. Flop c/c is prob also fine but going broke in this unraised pot on that board is awful. I would definitely be trying to keep the pot small.

I sure hope you aren't saying you like the checkraise

Too draw-y with too many players in for bottom 2 to feel right? Is heads-up a different game?

i'd normally lead, but checkraising seems fine also.

we only have 27 hands on BB don't forget. He's probably tight, but his bet could mean any 8 or reasonable draw as well as 84/85/sets.

once you check, c-c sucks on this board and so does folding. given that the guy is short raising seems standard.

hero's line seems to maximise value vs decent 8s and draws (although obviously it does maximise losses to better hands). leading would be interesting if raised.
