Players lounge at the WSOP

[ QUOTE ]
LAS VEGAS * May 15, 2007 * Players who make a $1,000 contribution to Nevada
Cancer Institute (NVCI) will have exclusive access to a special VIP lounge
at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino® for the entire 2007 World Series of
Poker Presented by Milwaukee¹s Best Light, the WSOP announced today.

The VIP Lounge will feature 24-hour food, beverages, plasma-screen
televisions, internet access, a custom-made WSOP billiards table from Pool
Store On More and other amenities. VIP players will also be granted special
parking privileges.

³Contributions to NVCI are tax-deductible as provided by law,² said NVCI
Vice President of Communications Clark Dumont. Players who donate will
receive receipts from NVCI for use in preparing their tax returns.

Cool idea. I have a feeling if they took a 5% rake off the gambling that takes place at the pool table they would make more than the $1k fee.

Sounds pretty sweet. Probably worth it for food/drinks alone, but at least they aren't just taking the money and it's going to good cause. Good for Harrahs.

It sounds like they're converting the Milwaukee's Best Light "Garage" trailer from last year into a VIP lounge?

IIRC, the Garage had plasmas, a pool table, recliners, etc...

Last thing I want to do is discourage anyone from giving to charity, but other than the pool table all of the other rooms that the various online sites set up will have the same type of stuff.

At the 2007 WSOP, what online sites will have rooms? I'm going to hazard a guess of NONE.

I'm sure Party will have one and I'm sure they won't let Americans go in. It will just be 8 Scandanavian guys. You know, for spite.

I havn't been keeping up with the legislation forum so forgive me if this is an ignorant inquiry, but why exactly won't FT, PS, and all the others that are still around in the U.S. have rooms?

And even if they don't....you don't think they'll sell those rooms to any sponsors at all? That would kinda suck as they provided a nice "community area" for everyone to hang out and meet people last year imo.

There are 2 reasons to have a Hospitality suite for a site at the WSOP.

1)Gathering place for players that won on-line sats so they can pick up their site ware clothes and provide a place to hang out

2) Use it as a recruiting tool for new customers.

Since none of the sites can outright sponsor players anymore the need for 1 isn't there.

With 2 years of experience gathering customer contact information at the last 2 WSOP's the Online rooms have a pretty good idea of how many new customers they can expect to draw to their site from the traffic generated by the suite. My guess is they looked at the cost to benefit ratio and will come to the conclusion that costs > rewards so why bother...

Additionally Harrahs might not be allowing the online sites to have hospitality suites, so I wouldn't be so sure that these rooms will be available, and if they are there, they will probably be scaled down, more minimal (food maybe, pop possibly, chairs if you are lucky..) but don't expect wifi, or someplace to go check e-mail.

I heard this was the case. My friend worked in the suite for FT last year and she was hoping to work there again this year. She told me that none of the sites were going to have those fancy suites this year.
