AOL IM alternatives

Can anyone recommend a good AIM alternative?

I want something VERY simple.

I've tried the Miranda client which would be perfect, except you can't view away messages.

Blah.

I've also looked at GAIM, but didn't like it for some reason.

Features I'd like:
- be able to sign in w/ multiple IM accounts
- yahoo messenger compatible would be nice
- file transfers that work

GAIM has a lot of options you have to monkey with to get it to look the way you want it.

File transfers are a problem behind a firewall, though.

I use a skin called "minimal theme pack" for Trill. It's about as clean as you can get without losing functionality...
