KQs played too passively, can I call river shove?

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

No read on villain. My turn check makes me sick in retrospect. As played, how would you play river differently?

SB: $90.75
BB: $100.00
UTG: $105.50
MP: $88.30
Hero (CO): $186.45
BTN: $106.70

Preflop: Hero is dealt K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6 Players)
UTG raises to $3.50, MP folds, Hero calls $3.50, 3 folds

Flop: ($8.50) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
UTG bets $7.00, Hero calls $7.00

Turn: ($22.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
UTG checks, Hero checks

River: ($22.50) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)

Yeah turn is pretty bad. As played I raise more on the river. Only way you are beat here is if he went for a turn c/r with a set or 2 pair which is very risky on this board i think. I call but no fist pump.

Bet the turn!

If you are raising that small on the river its either to induce a bluff 3bet or be able to fold to a 3bet, this is obviously a very player dependent situation. I would raise more on the river (~$40), by that point you are committed to call a push, but I still think that in general you will see enough lone 9s/random hands either look you up or over extend themselves with the push to make this +EV in the long run.

plz bet that turn, u couldn't have asked for a better card

i guess an unknown might not be positionally unaware, so a 9 could still be in his UTG range, not sure what would play like this that has us beat, so i call...

I call the shove against the average villian but I don't get why you raised so small on the river.

It's plays like this that keep so many low stakes players from having good results. Looking up at the guys who play mid to high stakes, you think they must be doing something special to be able to win so much. Then you get caught up in that thought and try to 'outplay' your opponents.

The trick is that outplaying your opponents only has a little to do with being tricky. Mostly, it's just maximizing your winnings and minimizing your losses. So next time when faced with an obvious play, don't try and overthink and get too tricky, 'outplay' your opponent by making the obvious play: bet the turn to build a large pot and maximize your value. Raise more on the river to bulid a large pot and maximize your value. It really is that simple.

Other comments:

3-bet preflop
Flop call is ok
Bet turn
Raise more on river

Fold preflop.

Bet the turn.
Don't min-raise the river. Make it a psb for value and call shoves.
