poker/BJ bankroll
 

I am a winning poker player and semi-new to card counting. I play 6 max limit hold 'em. I keep at least 500 big bets in my poker baknroll (about $10K) for the level that I am currently playing. I use the omega II system for card counting and it recommends having at least 150 max. bets in my BJ bankroll. When my poker bankroll gets up to $15K I will be sufficiently bankrolled to play BJ at he $25 minimum bet level (playing 2 deck BJ w/ a 4:1 bet spread). My question is do I need to have two bankrolls (one for poker, one for BJ) exclusive of each other, or can I use one single bankroll for each game and still maintain my current risk of ruin?

i.e. one $15K bankroll for playing 10-20 poker and $25 BJ, or a $15K bankroll for BJ and another $10K bankroll for poker

That would be a dangerous game if you couldn't proportion down.

No, I am referring to brick and mortar BJ and online poker. I want to know if one bankroll is sufficient for two, independant gambling endeavors. Is one $15K bankroll enough to play 10-20 hold 'em ($10K bankroll required), and $25-$100 BJ ($15K bankroll required)? Or would I need a $10K bankroll for poker and a seperate $15K bankroll for BJ (for a total bankroll of $25K). Any thoughts?

If you have a $15k bankroll, it doesn't matter what you call it.

You can call it your BJ bankroll, you can call it your Poker And BJ bankroll, or you can call it Rosemary; your RoR remains the same.

Increasing or decreasing your BR will change your RoR; giving names to various amounts of it will not.

Possible exception: If you are a winning player at one game and a losing player at the other and if losing that named portion of your total BR causes you to stop playing that game.

I understand that it doesn't matter what I call my bankroll. My question has more to do with the amount of bankroll required to play both games with an acceptable RoR. Do I need a $25K bankroll to play both games, or is $15K enough. Does the added variance that comes with playing two games require a larger bankroll than just playing one?

Try looking at it this way.

You go to a casino to play your regular $10/20 game. There is frequently a long list and it can take 2 or 3 hours to get a seat. Usually you can get a seat in a $2/4 pretty quickly, so you decide to play $2/4 while you wait, figuring making $8 or $10 an hour is better than making nothing.

Is your $10k bankroll for $10/20 enough, or do you need to add another $1,200 if you are also going to play the $2/4 game? Obviously not, right?

Now suppose you drive down to the casino and there is a convention of shoe salesman in the hotel. There are 114 people on the list for $2/4 Hold 'em and a long wait for $10/20.

You wander off, trying to decide whether or not you want to wait and you spot a quarter video poker machine that you know how to play. It's triple points night, so the game is worth $10/hour. You happen to know the bankroll requirement for that particular game is $1,200, the same as the $2/4 Hold 'em.

Do you need to add $1,200 to your BR to play that game?

How about if instead of a 25 cent machine, it's a $25 machine and requires a $120,000 bankroll -- now do you need to add to your BR? How much?
