Harrah\'s New Orleans Floor Decision

Harrah's in New Orleans a couple weeks ago, a player verbally goes all-in on the river for $1200 and another player calls him and shows the winning hand. The losing player grabs his $1200 in chips that he committed to the pot and begins to walk out of the poker room. The winning player immediately calls the floor which doesn't attempt to stop or retrieve the committed chips, and then refuses to reimburse.

What would most of you do in this situation? Casino's are so hypocritical when it's not their money at stake. Imagine the same situation at a Blackjack table, and I guarantee you that security would be all over it.

I'm stupid enough to chase after the guy shouting "stop thief" at the top of my lungs. Then I would try to tackle him and break at least my collarbone. After he kicked some of my teeth out I would latch onto a shoelace and hold on as he pulled me another fifty feet or so. Then I would get arrested for assault.

I'm hoping that somewhere along the way he would get stopped and brought back to the table by security where the dealer could verify what happened and/or the tape could be run and I could get the $1,200.

I hate being a victim.

What a coward.

OP could be five foot tall weighing 115 pounds vs seven-foot NFL Linebacker.

I think that justifies the "Let the Wookie win Defense."

I call the police, $1,200 dollars was just stolen from me. This is a criminal matter.

Im a shift manager in a poke room in vegas. Just to add my 2 cents.. 1st of all, if the winning player were to attack the other guy, its criminal assualt. Second of all, the only thing the house can do is call security and then gaming. The house cannot take the chips away from the player(its a gaming law.Look it up if you would like to) Another thing is this....Poker is not blackjack so I wish poker players would stop trying to compare the two. In blackjack, its house money, so yes it is theft at that point, but in in BJ verbal is not binding, so it would be a matter of the player having to reach into the bank to steal the money. Any player that is a real poker player knows to protect their hand espically becaucse of the legal classification of poker. We as poker players have much less recourse in this situation. The problem is there are probably no vocal recording devices so as fr as the law goes, its heresay. Now don't get me wrong, I would madder than hell if this happened to me, so don't think I'm against the player. i just wanted to let everyone know that from a legal standpoint, the only thing the house can do is call security and hope that gaming agents are ableto do something. You could however fight this(only against the player as the house is not liable) in small claims court, but you would spend more in laywer fees that what you would actually win. Just a thought

Yeah, I'm sure they'll get on that right away. Paging local ACist for anti-police rant.

Ok lets make it Craps then. Imagine I walk over to the craps table, Its a come out roll the dice are out so don't want to interefre with thrown dice, I lift up my $500 chip so the dealer sees it and I announce $500 on the pass line, the dealer announces $500 on the pass line is a bet" and the dice are rolled and come up snake eyes. But instead of dropping my $500 chip on the table for the dealer to collect I put it in my pocket and walk away. Do you think I might get picked up by security and held while they call gaming. Isn't this more similar to the poker situation -- noone was reaching into the bank. The bet was Verbal.

[/ QUOTE ] Well i doubt its heresay, but mabe some church will excommunicate you for it, and I certainly know its not hearsay as a matter of evidentiary law.

Great post, and I learned something new. Very interesting with the laws concerning Poker vs BJ.
