Complaining about the rake and getting told on by dealers......

I feel like a complete ass. In an attempt to make a good impression at Treasure Island for the upcoming audition I have (to be a dealer) I have been playing there all this week, the $2/4 Limit game. I know this game is unbeatable profitwise, and for some reason every now and then whenever someone would say "why does no one have more than the buyin" I would comment on the effect of rake + jackpot + toke in a $2/4. In addition I stupidly accused a dealer of overraking the pot. He WAS overraking it, and he did it more than once. Still what my point was in saying it was stupid since I was trying to make a good impression. Then later I said something about not being able to afford a $4 time drop in the $2/4 Mixed game, as when you add that to antes and tokes and bring-in bets, you either win or you go broke fast. All this pettiness probably has something to do with the fact that I'm extremely broke from not being able to find work, was playing with money I shouldn't have been playing with, and am probably overall unhappy about the position in life I'm in. However, the floor came over and asked "You're applying for that job, right? Well, it's not in your best interests to say what you're saying, I've already had SIX complaints in the last few days about it." SIX. I can see them sitting at the break table, like "oh that kid wants a job, he can't even keep his mouth shut about the rake."

Overall I'm very embarrassed, and I'm MORE THAN SURE I just cost myself the job, and for that I feel like an even bigger ass. I was so pissed at myself for what I had done I left immediately after I was told that, not even finishing my round.

Anyway, in you people's opinion, how bad is doing what I did? I didn't really feel like I was doing anything wrong, but I got SIXXXXXX complaints in like 3 days....so the whole room doesn't like me......and I feel pretty sick and stupid right now.

Also if anyone from TI is reading this I'm very sorry and I just need to get it out of my system, I'm sitting at home on a friday night contemplating vomiting to get rid of the sickness that has not left me since I left two hours ago.

well aside from complaining about the rake, you kept suggesting to people not to tip the dealers. You can't expect the dealers to want you sitting in their game making this suggestion.

Re: Complaining about the rake and getting told on by dealers......

Q: Why are you playing there?

A: To show them what you're like.

I guess showing them what a know-it-all loudmouth you are hampered your prospects.

Hey, I used to be a young, know-it-all loudmouth myself. It cost me more than one job. Even cost me a promotion once. I grew out of it, eventually. You probably will, too.

EDIT TO ADD: This is just a wild guess, but I get the impression that you probably could not resist the urge to help the dealers run the game while you were there. Outside of outright stiffing, that generates the most complaints in the break room--and it fits in perfectly with the know-it-all attitude embodied in your post.

Under the circumstances and adding facts according to psandman, i don't think there was really whole lot else you COULD do wrong if you wanted a job there.

I guess it would be worse off if you physically threatened the paying customers to not play in the room, instead of verbally convincing them.

Typically the casinos in vegas are looking for dealers to keep their players there and happy, not inform them about how much they're losing.

You would be worse off if they did hire you, because that would show poor lack of judgment by the management, not to mention poor business sense. Not only that, but with six complaints I doubt you're a favorite with your potential coworkers.

If you honestly don't feel like you did anything wrong, you wouldn't be making this post.

For what reason did you ever think that any of your conduct at any point was a good idea and being helpful in fulfilling your future goals?

2-4 is not unbeatable with a 4$ rake. If it is, find another game.

bring ins, antees? Is this a 2-4 stud?

Time to look for another job. I don't see the wisdom in playing at the place you want it too often.

By all means, continue to alert dealers if they are over-raking the pot. You don't want to work in a crooked room do you?

You didn’t stop and think….you screwed up…..it sounds as if you learned from it.
Give yourself a break, let it go and move on. When you improve your life situation you’ll probably look back with only a slight cringe as you chuckle about it.

fwiw….some new employees try overly hard to verbally impress, while others work diligently and keep their mouths shut except to ask questions until they gain a better sense of what’s what. The second type tend to succeed.

You're dreaming.

Let's see.
You complained about the rake,
accused dealers of over raking,
stiffed the dealers.

Making a real good impression on hopeful future co-workers?
And chasing customers away? Nice move.

Next time you play there try throwing cards at the dealers.

Hate to say it, but...

There is an old adage- "Don't drink from the cup that you peed into."

You have pissed away your chance to get hired from there. Time to apply elsewhere & learn from the mistakes made.

Good luck.

I'm probably not gonna be too popular here saying this, but isn't Vegas like the easiest place in the world to find a job....and aren't a great deal of those jobs better paying than dealing cards? And anyway, isn't poker dealing like one of the most competetive job openings there is, only to get much worse in the next few years?

I mean really, if like sucks so bad that its a strain to play $2-4 LHE, shouldn't you do anything it takes to make money....two jobs or whatever?

I applied for a job as a waiter at this restaurant. I decided to eat there several times a week to show them what a stand up guy I was. While there I complained about the food and the service. I told the other customers they watered down the drinks, charged too much, padded the bill and that the restaurant down the road was much better overall.

Oh, I've been out of work for a while now and probably shouldn't have been eating out and putting it all on my credit card. I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Hope the call me soon.

No he said he was pointing out to the players how much came off the table in rake AND TOKES.

There are more minimum wage jobs per capita in this city than any other that I'm aware of. Yes, there are tips involved, and none of that is a guarantee. Btw, the joint I work at had 2 extra board jobs open, we had over 1000 applications, and about 100 auditions. Those dealers get 1-3 days a week depending on how often they're called in to deal. It's not the mecca of dealing jobs everyone thinks there is. The farthest applications actually came from a few Asian countries and England/Sweeden. Most from the US and from most states as well.

I didn't see where the manager said it was dealer complaints. It very well could have been other players thinking you were a douche and spoke up to the floor as well. Don't jump to conclusions. And honestly, if I had a potential employee in my room doing what you were doing, I'd probably speak to the manager in charge of hiring just to give an opinion. I'd do the same thing if you were a stand up guy as well and I was aware you were looking for a job in my room.

Re: Complaining about the rake and getting told on by dealers......

Just an update...

Yes I lost the job due to these comments. Several things were taken out of context, and there were a few things that got fully made up, and when I found out about all this I realized that obviously no one there likes me. No suprise.

No other job openings for poker this month obviously. I will be making $10 an hour running cash registers somewhere unimportant. My bitterness turns people off of me, which in turns makes me more bitter. I also managed to drop almost $400 playing $2/4 there throughout this week....I love my life -_-
