Comm 9/18: Flop a Wheel

Just moved to a new table, I'm stuck ~300. Button plays very LAG. The type that can't get away from overpairs regardless of board texture. Everyone else is extremely loose-passive.

I raise UTG with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (shoulda just folded, but I'm getting a little frustrated, really card-dead). Button 3-bets, both blinds call, I call.

Flop 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Blinds check, I check, button bets, all call.

Turn 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB checks, BB bets, I raise, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls.

River 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. BB checks, I bet, Button calls, BB cr's, I 3-bet, Button disgustedly folds, BB calls.

Thoughts? (other than folding pre).

one of the advantages of raising this shitbox preflop is that they will never put you on it (although they likely won't try to read your hand anyway.) check raise this flop. if button has AK-AJ, it is very likely he will check the turn behind, and that surely would suck. if he has an overair, he's gonna 3bet that flop, in which case you can c/r his ass again on the turn. not to mention the fact that on the flop you have the nuts with a draw to the nuts. your equity is enormous. go crazy.

This looks fine although if the flop checked thru it'd be bad and if the turn was a spade or a 4, it'd also be bad.

Re: Comm 9/18: Flop a Wheel

Bob, when button 3-bet pre, I'm like 95% sure he has QQ, KK or AA. Maybe AKs, but I doubt it. There had been no preflop 3-betting whatsoever, just lots of cold-calling 2 bets.

I was intending to CR the turn, but the BB just led out. I popped it because button was NOT folding an overpair. Though in hindsight, I might've just called, hoping the button would raise his OP so I could 3-bet...

if button is indeed a LAG, he can have a ton of hands here.

Check raise the flop - you have three other guys in for 1 bet already. They will never believe you have a straight, more likely that you have a flush draw. If you are correct in thinking button has an overpair, he may very well 3-bet you at which point you can cap for maximum value. If this occurs you might just have everybody calling through the river to hit their magic card.

Follow through with a bet on the turn whether the button 3-bets the flop or not. In this case the BB may raise you and you get to 3-bet the turn as well!

If the game is loose-passive like you said, then there is nothing wrong with limping UTG w/A4s.

Just go nuts on the flop. You'll get more action that way than going for a turn raise and you dont have to worry about the turn getting checked through.
