Dude cold calls for half his stack preflop, just give up?

$69 single table. Made the raise cuz the open raiser had been min raising a ton and I'd been playing tight as hell. SB hasn't been that active so no real read.
Full Tilt Poker, NL Hold'em Tournament, 40/80 Blinds, 8 Players

Hero (BTN): 1,485
SB: 1,078

MP1: 1,390
MP2: 1,340
CO: 1,655

Pre-Flop: (120) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (BTN)
4 folds, CO raises to 160, Hero raises to 510, SB calls 470, 2 folds

He has 500 left i have 1000 or so. Do you stick him in on the flop, or am I 100% crushed and is he 100% calling?

100% crushed by a good player.

obv he is not a good player. shove pf if you think he is fos, getting in these awkward situations without a monster really sucks. he seems like the type of guy that will look you up with AQ on the flop.

I 100% fold preflop.
On the HH u posted it says Hero 1485
CO: 1655.
So how does he have 500 left and you have 1000. Shouldnt you guys be about even (him actually 100+ more chips than you).
I dont think i'd get myself in this situation with A8 BUT if i did i think after being checked to im shoving the flop (if his stack is really what it reads on the HH posted 1655 so about 1000 post flop).

i'd shove over pf from one of the blinds if villian was on the button and had been doing this.

Guys guys, it was the sb who called, not the co.
Also, I hate the threebet.

As for the flop, I like sticking it in now. What even half way decent player calls for half stack and then checks flop?

Fold PF, on the flop sounds like sb has you crushed.

I know your raise was simply trying to pick up the blinds and the min-raise, but it can leave you in a bad spot. You're in a healthy position in the tournament before this hand and now you've put in 1/3 of your stack with marginal holdings.

You're raise even if only called by the co min-raiser would leave you in a bad spot also, with a pot of ~1100 and both you and co ~1000 stacks and no room to c-bet.

If you really want to pick off the min-raise - a shove is better.
fold > shove > what you did.

When you make a move like this, you really need to take stack sizes into consideration. This is just a very awkward spot to make a move like this. You are sticking in >1/3rd of you stack to make the move, so you aren't going anywhere if you get shoved on.

So, when putting in this much you might as well shove. But, shoving kinda sucks here this deep. So, I'd just fold simply because of the awkwardness of the stacks.

As the hand actually played out, I'd probably just shove and hope to get TT, or AK/AQ to fold. But, it's a [censored] spot. However, you care getting a good price on a shove here.
