Looking to purchase Dell\'s 30Inch Monitor

Hi. As stated in the title I am in the market for a 30inch dell monitor so that I can 8 table on one screen. I was reading on dell.com the stuff you need to make this work and came across this:

your PC must have a dual-link DVI-D graphics card that supports 2560x1600 resolution.

Now my PC is pretty old. Dell Dimension 4600 (bought in 2003) so my question is. How do I know if I have a dual-link DVI-D graphics card?

Look at your PC : DVI output are always white, while VGA are blue.

2 white ? Let's go. 1 white 1 blue ? Buy a new graphic card.

No.

You need a a card that supports dual link DVI. This is just one output which looks the same as whether it supports it or not. You have to figure out what card you have and find out if it supports it.

Dell PC circa 2003? No way it supports dual-link DVI. Check to see if your Dell has an AGP slot. If it does, you're good to go with an upgrade from, say, newegg.com.

If not... you get to buy a new(er) system to drive the monitor. Isn't technology great?

While in your specific case, it is incredibly unlikely you have dual-link DVI.

More generally, to determine this:

a) Determine what video card you have - http://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid...what+video+card

Easiest way: Start Menu; Run; type in "dxdiag" (no quotes); Click "display"

Other methods are at http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000258.htm

b) Copy and paste your video card name into google; check specs on manufacturer's website.

While this is correct about the colour of the ports, this has no relevance to the question. It appears to be confusion between "dual-link dvi" and "dual dvi outputs."

excellent info is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI to explain this.
