*** Official NFL offseason thread ***

Its time! The first post-season award has been given, there are already 3 head coaching vacancies and there are a number of big names out there whose contracts have yet to be renewed. Let the speculation begin!

To start with, who are going to be the new coaches next year? From what I can tell the Cardinals are the only team already actively looking for a new HC. They have supposedly already set up meetings with Ron Rivera, Cam Cameron and Mike Sherman. If I were a GM I think Rivera and Cameron would have to be at the top of my list of HC candidates... Who else deserves a look?

I saw this new Matt Millen quote on ESPN.com.

"I'll never quit...I don't even consider that."

Can he be put on trial for crimes against football?

I wouldn't be shocked to start hearing talks about Josh McDaniels being giving a HC opportunity in the next few years. He was hired as an asistant in the Pat's scouting department in 2001, worked as an assistant on the defensive staff for 3 years and then was made QB coach in 2004 when Weis left. At the time he was only 29... He was named their OC before this season.

Just wondering what some people think about the Dolphins opening. It seems to be a hellish job right, you'll have to deal with Ricky Williams, Quarterback issues, and an aging defense.

Is it attractive to people, who do you think they will be looking at, ect.

It has to be one of the worst openings in recent history, but going into last offseason I think I would have said that about the Saints, so obv. you never know what is going to happen.

But things are Ugly. You have 3 QBs all of which you probably have to keep next year but none of which you can be very confident in. Ronnie Brown is a good hard runner and Chambers, Booker and McMichael are all decent recievers. Their offensive line definitely needs to be rebuilt.

On defense their front 7 is very good right now, but I can't see them lasting too many more years. Jason Taylor is an amazing DE, but he has always been undersized and he is like 33 now. Zach Thomas is, in my opinion, the most talented linebacker in football. He is only 5-11 230, but he is an absolute monster of a MLB. He has had under 150 total tackles once in the last 6 years when he got 145 in 2004. He has been a starting LB for Miami for 10 seasons in a row and has only missed 12 games over that period of time. I think he'll be 34 next season... all signs lead to him wearing out soon. Channing Crowder is the only member of their starting front 7 on defense that is under 30. A couple of those guys are real old. Their secondary is younger, but its also not very good.

Anyway, it looks really tough.

Woudln't Thomas be the biggest overachiever in football or the hardest worker. There is no way he is the most talented. He's awesome but the reason he's awesome isn't b/c he's the most talented in any way shape or form. He's hungry, hunger does well in the NFL.

...and smart. He apparently watches tons more film than most players and constantly manages to find things to give himself an edge.
