Calling from the Small Blind in NL
 

You are in the small blind, everyone folds to you, is it better to fold, call, or raise. Read a column by Caro and he said the it almost is always better to fold or just call, and that it was rarely (if ever) profitable to raise in these circumstances. Opinions please. Also, discussion on the differences between cash games and tournement, as well

Ive always viewed this as a raise or fold situation, you dont want to be completing and letting bb in for free with ATC and position on you. I would raise a large range here - probably AA-22, AXs KXs QXs JXs, Any Broadway, KQs - 54s, KJs - 53s, KTs - 63s, and other suited junk, K9, Q9 etc.

Also if im in the bb and sb limps im raising any vaguely playable cards.

Caro might have been talking about limit holdem.

In NL holdem, you should be developing a relationship with BB that includes a variety of actions that all hinge on the type of player that BB is.

The biggest factor is that you are out of position. So if BB is a good position player, then I would be folding a lot. If BB was tight, I would be raising a lot. If BB was loose passive, I'd be making value plays, limping with speculative hands, raising good ones. And so on....
